14 ML350 Bluetec DPF/EGR delete

Hopefully I’m not beating a dead horse... I used the search function and didn’t find many results. Just picked up my second ML BT looking to do full DPF, EGR delete. Anyone else have experience with this? Which tune did you use? I see Malone and JT Auto offer tuning options, anyone else I’m missing? I’m not really concerned with more power, just looking for reliability, oil options and MPG.

I'm having our truck done in November. DEF/DPF/EGR delete. Outfit here in Montreal referred to me by Malone. They will be using our truck for Beta-testing for the DPF as they don't have a bypass pipe for our BT's yet. In return, I get a break on the pricing.
Go to the diesel section of this forum and ask there, I believe Micah, amongst others, will be able to inform you as to what to expect. Myself, after having had the EGR and DEF equipment replaced at 20k miles under warranty (which ended this month), I can't wait to rip that **** out and start to actually benefit from the legendary Mercedes reliability that went the way of the dodo bird when they started dicking with anti-pollution stuff for diesels.

Here is a DPF delete pipe for W166. Thank you for the info, I almost think I might keep factory exhaust and just hollow it out.

My own personal rule #1: NEVER sell/scrap or otherwise damage OEM equipment when you take it off. We don't have emissions-testing here in Quebec, but it ever comes here or I want to sell the truck, I might want/need to put all that crap back in place.

Oh, and thx for the link!!!

I can imagine Diablois' report cards in elementary school;

"Intelligent but lacks social skills. Does not play well with others..."

Do yourself a huge favour and save yourself a lot of grief. Put numnuts on your ignore list and enjoy the relative calm of world peace.

Peter,
Diabolis most likely holds an doctorate degree or some equivalent education level, those types always seem to be the highly opinionated voices that somehow believe they are more intelligent than everyone else. Regardless of the fact that most of these types are professors that have yet to hold a job outside of the education system. I wouldn’t expect someone of that intellectually level to understand diesel engines have been around since late 1800s without any form of EPA regulation. I’m sure Diabolis probably advocates the use of hybrid technology, without once thinking about the environmental impact of what to do with all the batteries once the lifespan is through.

Great idea peter. When trading the vehicle in the dealer will insist all the epa stuff be present and operational.

Additionally, recently the federal government levied a heavy fine on a company that was removing pollution control components and providing a tune that allowed the vehicle to operate with those components missing.

It is not about intelligence - it is indeed about living together in a society where our actions impact the well-being of others, which is something you two clearly lack. Accountability and doing the right thing are social skills, so I am afraid that you're just projecting your own shortcomings here.

Indeed - as they should. Maybe peter and CSM have heard of another (bigger) company that not too long ago suffered exactly the same fate and is the very reason why diesels have now become unacceptable... Volkswagen.

Peter,
I look forward to your results/review. It is difficult to find info on late model Bluetec modifications.

Booked for this Monday, dropping it off Sunday evening. They say they need two days, so I've booked a rental for four days LOL. You know, Murphy's Law.

The EGR/DEF delete is all tuning, so no biggie there according to the shop. $600 for reprogramming the ECU. The pricier part is the DPF delete. Bypass pipe is around $1200 (all pricing in CAN). The shop operator asked if I wanted more power, I said no (something's definitely wrong with me). I then asked him if the DPF delete would change the power level, he confirmed that it definitely would. I think I remember asking Micah (hangs around on the diesel sub-forum) if the DPF delete made a performance difference and he had also confirmed that it did.

I wonder if the exhaust will also be louder? I would imagine so.

I believe it will be slightly louder, not sure if it will be noticeable if you aren’t aware of modifications. As for power I’m not concerned about more power either lol which is a first for me! I’m more concerned about MPG and not sending the soot back into the engine. Also being able to go to auto parts store for an oil change will be nice! Currently have to order online as no one carries the ESP oil.

I'm already running Amsoil high(er) zinc content oil, which is why I'm anxious to remove the DPF before it plugs up. Whazz ESP?

Mobil 1 esp. It’s the approved oil for Bluetec, low ash oil that helps prevent DPF from clogging up.

Got a call today. The shop doing the mods suggested cutting off the flange from my DPF and re-using it on the bypass pipe. He confirmed that if I ever have to re-install the DPF, he can just remove the flange from the bypass and re-install it on the DPF. Said that the cost would be significantly less if we went this route. I was stoked, more by the fact that the shop knew I was ready to spend the extra bucks for a bypass pipe, yet they proposed a cheaper solution.
These guys are amazing....

Guys, please don't quote diabolis. When you do, his quotes appear to me, even though I've put him on my ignore list. Please?

Living together....freakin' hilarious coming from numnuts himself. He's alienated the Devil himself. I swear...

Well, 24 hrs after the mods (which cost $1400 CAD before taxes), no surprises of any kind. DPF/DEF and EGR delete. No weird smells, no black smoke that I can see. No check-engine lights. So far, so good.

You got it! So how’s the drivablity? Did they tune or basically just deletes? Did you notice any power increase if it was just deletes?

Just took it for a 20 minute jaunt. I honestly don't see a difference. Maybe a bit stronger acceleration, but that's about it. No noticeable black smoke on hard acceleration, but the only way to really confirm that is to follow from behind. As far as noisier is concerned, she seems a tad bit noisier when cold, but that's it. Keep in mind that they'd asked if I wanted more performance and I refused. Just knowing that I won't have to worry about clogged swirl valve ports, inoperative DEF system or a blocked DPF is good enough for me.

We're heading down to Florida with the ML in December, dying to see what the fuel consumption will be like. When filling up, the dash gives us a range of 900 km/550 miles. Curious to see if it's higher or not.

Awesome! Thank you for being the Guinea pig, looking forward to joining the club. I just 660 miles out of a tank with cruise at 85 mph. I’m more than excited about the fuel economy.
