Merge W166/X166 ML/GLE/GL Forums

Hello members. I am trying to gain more visibility in my push to try and get the W166/X166 (ML/GLE/GL) forums merged into one group. My thoughts are that the ML/GLE are essentially the same vehicle just with a changed name plate, in regards to the W166. And the GL/GLS is also the same in regards to the X166 chassis code. I believe merging these forums together will increase visibility of issues, conversations, and actions in our respective forums. It will also help old and new members in their search for answers and opinions.

The thread that I started is in the Group suggestions sections of the forum.

Below is the Link:

https://mbworld.org/forums/suggestio...one-forum.html

If you could please comment your thoughts here so that the admins will be able to see that there are many group members that support this; it will greatly help.

Thanks!

Here's the thing. Your talking about two different cars:
ML/GLE are on the same chasis the W166. Granted both have the same engines/body style, the facelifted GLE has many different things inside and out. An issue a user would have on the ML is not the same as an issue someone would have on the GLE.

GL/GLS are on the same chasis X166 as well. This car is a three row beast, you cant even discuss an issue with the GL/GLS without confusing someone in the group. there are several variants of the GL as long as the GLS.

It would lead to too much confusion. While I applaud you wanting to do so, long term wont work.

my .02 cents.

What's different between the W166 ML and GLE - besides most noticeably the Head Unit? All other changes are cosmetic - different LED striping in the tail lights and headlight, small gauge cluster animations, steering wheel. But if I needed to remove, for example, the rear air vent - the work instructions are the same for a 2012 ML and a 2019 GLE.....

the interior of the facelifted W166 GLE and X166 GLS is not just the head unit. the Entire interior is different, the steering wheel, the head-unit the center column, the AC/Heater vents, the column that controls what mode you want. I can go on, but you need to go and look inside the GLE/GLS to see what im talking about. The changes are not just cosmetic as you state, I was inside a ML for 3 years and although i dont drive a GLE, I can tell you its not the same. .

I support the merge. Many items for ML actually found in other sections. There are variation in each model years and engine configuration anyway. They are not very different. The merge will help a lot in visibility.

Not much difference but the command/technology is different, display, steering wheel, and pad instead of dial for command control. I have both. The newer command in the GLE/GLS is more responsive and loads contacts and responds to voice control more quickly than the previous model command.

Would suggest for you to get in a GLE/GLS then report your findings

The ML and GLE are not the same vehicle, this was not MB just renaming the ML to bring the ML in line with it's new naming convention (GLE). Different engines for the diesel (3.0L vs the 2.0L). The head unit is different NT4.0/4.5 vs NT5.0. So I do not support merging at all. And as other's have stated the interior is different.

I support merging the ML/GLE '12-'19 models, but would NOT bring the GL/GLS into it. The ML/GLE facelift IMHO is similar to the 98-01, 02-05 facelift with the w163 chassis. Different engines, different mirrors, etc, mainly cosmetic changes. The chassis is THE SAME though, which is why I think the merge would be beneficial. But leave the soccer mom wagons out of it

lmao. Yeah and Mercedes has never updated navigation system and software in the same chassis before. Wait, yes.. yes they have. Plenty of times. For one my 2004 w203 C230 had a refresh in 2005 of its head unit. Are they not a w203 anymore and different cars? Respectfully speaking, I am truly surprised that some people in this forum are not seeing that the W166 ML/GLE are the same vehicle just the ladder having more updates and refreshments as with any vehicle nameplate in the industry until a redesign occurs.

Yes, the ML/GLE would be merged together. And then another group for the GL/GLS. My initial thoughts on this were in February where we attempted a merge due to very low interaction in the w166 ML63 and x166 GL63 forums in comparison to the W166 GLE63 forums. But after more thought it is the general consensus that W166 ML/GLE be merged and X166 GL/GLS be merged - separately. It’s outlined in the suggestions and feedback portion of the forum with more detail. Thanks for your response.

I don't think you're going to get very far, deriding people who Express a differing opinion.
Plus, to me you haven't made a very good case for merging forums.
Laugh your a** off at my comment if it gives you pleasure.

The right decision. I just don't understand why someone doesn't want to merge ML / GLE when it's the same class? The last ML is the w166 until the facelift in 2015. With the facelift came the renaming to the GLE as an E-class SUV. Likewise, the GL is after the GLS facelift as an S-class SUV. GLK is after a facelift of GLC. The SLK coupe was also renamed SLC. Who doesn't understand?

Just a small correction, unlike all other mentioned above, GLK and GLC are totally and absolutely different and unrelated models. GLC is NOT a GLK facelift.

Well, actually, I have made a good case at merging the forums. They are W166 chassis and should be in the same group - just as the rest of this forum is organized. IE - W203, W211, W222, etc etc. I am just truly surprised all MB enthusiast in this forum cannot agree the w166 ML and GLE are the same car.

Another good case I can bring up is that when dealership technicians are looking up WIS for any work they’re doing on these cars. The manual does not signify whether it’s an ML or GLE - it just states W166…. If that doesn’t tell you these forums shouldn’t be merged then idk what to tell you.

Does doing your hair differently make you a different person? Ironically, someone getting "face-lift surgery" does not make them a different person - just refreshes their look, but they are still the same person. Just because there are refreshments from year to year on a car model does not mean that it is a different car. It just happens to be that the ML in 2016 had its nomenclature changed to match the rest of the MB lineups. For example - I replaced my rear air vents on my ML63. The work instructions were the same for a 2014 W166 ML as it was for a 2018 W166 GLE, even used photos from an ML.

Yes GLK / GLC is not a facelift I wrote it incorrectly. This is the second generation of GLK that has been renamed GLC. Therefore, it cannot be said that these are unrelated models if the first generation is GLK and the second GLC.

Unlike W166 ML/GLE, unlike X166 GL/GLS, X204 GLK and X253 GLC are NOT related.

If one combines X204 with X253, then all W163/W164/W166 should be combined too because they are 2nd and 3rd generation of the original ML? Of course NOT. Combining GLK with GLC is equivalent to combining W166 GLE with V167 GLE - same name cars, later is the next generation of the former, but are totally different platforms and have nothing in common except the name (someone pointed also to a start on the hood, in a different thread). I have W166 ML and W166 GLE and they are essentially the same car with expected improvements in W166GLE as a facelift of W166ML. I had both GLK and GLC loaners (immediate family member has GLC) and they are totally unrelated and completely different cars.

You don't understand me at all. I agree with everything you have written, except that the GLK / GLC are completely unrelated cars. I never talked about merging with GLK / GLC, I just wrote about changing the name from GLK / GLC and SLK / SLC. For example, the whole problem is that you see the w126 and w221 as totally unrelated and completely different cars. But for me, these are cars that are related because they are from the same class / S class. And the same is the GLK / GLC for your totally unrelated and completely different cars. For me, cars that are related because they are in the same class. That is the whole problem. I didn't combine GLK / GLC, I'm just saying that cars are related. And you didn't understand me here. But I liked your comments because you have a great overview.

Ironically the W166 and W167 are combined in the AMG forums, when really they shouldn’t be. But then I am crucified by some members for asking the W166 ML and GLE forums to be merged.

What other admins could I possibly ask besides speedlimit? I’m wondering because I’ve had no feedback from speedlimit since February when I asked to merge W166 ML/GE and X166 GL/GLS

I don't think you have been "crucified."
You are just intolerant of an opinion that differs from yours, and you immediately jump in to "defend" your opinion.

Think about it: If you have to argue with every commenter, maybe your idea isn't the prevailing sentiment?
I'm glad that One Poster didn't cause the moderators to change their format. I wouldn't be surprised if that's what happened with the 166/167 forums.

Idon't think you understand how you do ungrateful work. Why? Because whatever you do or invent, it will never be good for everyone ... Never. It will always be bad. And it doesn't matter if you argue for everyone or nod that they are right, because it will go wrong again ... always. In the Czech Republic we say :: 10 people - 11 opinions ....

Don't think of ML / GLE and GL / GLS because you did it wrong.
If you did it separately, it would also be bad. If it were together, it would be wrong again
If you didn't do anything about it, it would be bad again, because in another forum they put it together.

You have nothing to be sad about - you did a good job and it was definitely not you who tried to convince ... Greetings to the owner of GLE ...

I am not only referring to the “nays” in this section. I’ve posted in the W166 ML63, W166 GLE63, X166 GL63 forums as well as the W166 ML, W166 GLE, X166 GL, X166 GLS, and the suggestion and feedback sections. The reason I posted in all of those sections separately is to ask members who agree to go to the suggestions and feedback section of this forum and comment on my post there. Because any suggestions or feedback will be taken into consideration by admins in that section mostly. They won’t necessarily be addressed if posted in separate sections….
