OM642 Vin decoding?
I'm trying to decode the vin on the engine to find out specifically what car it originally came out of. Not to worried but would be good to know. Anyone have access to EPC that can look up the body vin number from the engine?
Engine Vin shows: 642 826 41 221 697
Thanks in advance!

I haven't used EPC in a while but there is no reverse lookup where you can plug in the EIN to get the original vehicle VIN?
The EIN is: 642 826 41 221 697
Thanks for your help.

I'm slowly coming to the conclusion that what I'm asking of EPC isn't an option.
I have an engine purchased from LKQ that was installed in a known W166. I have the vin of my existing car and can lookup the original engine via last vin.
VIN 4JGDA2EB6CA026133 <--- Wrecked car I purchased
Model Year 2012 Model ML 350 BLUETEC 4MATIC
Engine (EIN) 642826 41 208785 <--- Original EIN from the vin 026133 above
What I'm looking for is the vin number of the engine purchased from LKQ so I can pull a CarFax and look up its history. The EIN on the LKQ engine is: 642826 41 221697
I also tried contacting LKQ and was told they don't store car vin's or engine serial numbers.
I wish Mercedes would simply print the original car vin on the engine but for this case its not possible

Thanks again,
Brian

Milage on that engine back in 23 was 67k. Sounds like I really made out good here! The wife and I love our diesel. I knew the engine would eventually have troubles based on its high milage and extended oil intervals prior to our purchase. I did what I could for the last 50k miles using liquamoly every 5k miles but the oil control rings were clogged, I had injector issues which washed the fuel and a worn oil pump resulting in what sounds like a rod knock.
Thanks a ton! I'll get back to cleaning her, replacing the oil pump, cleaning up carbon and prepping her for a re-install. Cheers!

Unfortunately, that trick is possible only with the offline EPC where the service is running in the background on your own PC. Offline EPC has data up through early 2019.
Beyond that you have to subscribe to MBs online service, where you can no longer get to the database.
