Are they're any pitfalls to DIY brake jobs on a 2004 CL?
Dealer wants about $550 for rotors is there an alternative?

I have an 03 E320 so I'm not familiar with the CL model. The 2003+ E class cars have an electronic braking system that can be disabled by disconnecting it, then proceeding with the brake job. So far I've replaced my rear rotors/pads and will do the fronts in a couple of months. Rear parts came to $280.Originally Posted by WIldcat465

When I've done other cars, all Ive needed was a wrench to remove the calipers and a C-clamp to compress them. Is there anything else or is it that simple?

You may need a set of Torx wrenches to remove the caliper, and possibly some drifts to hammer out the pins that hold the pads in place (on some models).Originally Posted by WIldcat465

You are absolutely correct Paul; it’s called Sensotronic Brake Control - SBC. Fitted to R230 and W211.
The SBC must be de-activated to prevent pressure build up.
Inadverted build up of pressure must be avoided when working on the brake system.
Not de-activated the pressure will build up automatically when you open a door/trunk, operating central locking, tuning key, depressing/operating brake pedal, parking brake. Failure to follow proper procedure may cause bodily harm or damage to the SBC system. SBC de-activation is available on the OEM tester and some aftermarket tools
