need a mechanics advice.....

ok, so here's teh skinny, i bought a warranty for my 2003 CL500, it needed a ABC Seal replaced prior, i said i can wait till the warranty kicks in to put it in the shop.

now they wont fix it because they said it was pre-existing due to built up grime from teh oil leaking under the body. ok, so i asked teh dealer ship how much for teh work, they said 900 and some change to do it, i flipped out, i asked WHY, the part cost 1.50, and the Labor is 115.00, were the hell did the 800.00 come from? he said its to flush and fill it!!!

i took it to my dude and he told me he can change the part for me for 30 bucks plus parts, is that a bad idea, its just a seal, unscrew, replace, screw.

question is, does he need to flush teh system, he said no, i just wanna make sure of that. thanks for teh words people

or try http://www.alldata.com/products/diy/index.html for the diy
the main pump and the 4 cylinders may need to be bled, don't know why you would have to change out all the fluid unless it is contaminated.

If an ABC system component is leaking, the Hydraulic system must be depressurized before starting any work, once fixed you must bleed the system or any air. A clutch or brake system will not function correctly if repaired and not bled, the same applies too the ABC. To bleed, you must active all four struts in a circular motion. This procedure can only be performed with an STAR or similar software.

Find another Tech.

There is a reason the dash displays in RED when there’s an ABC malfunction, I am sure you can find a capable shop with the proper tools, which can do the repairs for less. Your life is worth more then $900. Good luck

ok UPDATE

talked to 3 different mechanics who all work with mercedes on a regular basis but wont have axcess to the STAR unit.

they all said about the same thing, they said fix the leak, fill it up and run it for 30 or more minutes with the fill cap left open, and it will run the air out on its own.

the common answer was to do that in order to bleed the system.

any objections?

i just find it shocking that they want me to do something unnecisary like flush it and THEN bleed it just so they can add to the cost

The tech side of me will say you can never fully bleed the ABC system by that method. Try it; if the body feels bouncy you have trapped air. Good luck

Keep in mind that a flush of the ABC is not a bad idea after four or five years. ABC repair costs of $5,000 or even $10,000 are not unheard of. The valve blocks, the pump, the struts, pressure sensors and the hydraulic lines are all susceptible to micro contamination in the oil, which transmits force at 3,000 PSI. The ABC system is not a good place to cut corners.

yea, after talking to some Techs that work for Mercedes, this is what we did.

i replaced the seals through a certified mechanic friend, 20 second job, easy fix for both seals.

they told me a flush is NOT necessary unless the fluid is dark, which mine was not. a bleeding is a good idea they said, and said that you don't have to let them bleed it. all i had to do, since i had the air suspension, was open the filler cap for the fluid, and leave the car running for about a half hour or so, while making the car rise and lower constantly.

this, in turn bleed the system on its own, and now I'm so far so clean, no leaks.

this is the seal after removal, turns out the dealer did pinch it while they did the Service on that hose that was recalled, just never made a fuss about it.

sorry, i thought i updated everyone, but i ended making a new thread about how they screwed my seals.

THOSE SEALS ARE NOT PART OF THE RECALLED HOSE ,THE RECALLED HOSE HAS STEEL FITTINGS ON BOTH ENDS . THOSE SEALS ARE PART OF A HIGH PRESSURE STRUT LINE GOING TO THE VALVE BLOCK

right on the money my friend, glad to see someone who knows his parts.

thing is, how is it that after my car was inspected by my tech to see for leaks and such, that after i pull it to the dealer for the work done, and pull out with a new leak?
