Loyal to mobil one?

Well, Mobil is ok.... that's general opinion right now. It's better than crap like Valvoline, US Castrol, etc, but not the best by far.
If you want the best preforming oil:
There was a whole debate about Mobil on rx7club.com, and most everybody switched away from it now. Mobil is good, but only sub-par to Amsoil, RP, Redline, and Lubro-Moly. If you are tight on money, you would be better off using a half and half oil, unless you drive AMG or something, otherwise, and ESPECIALLY if you drive AMG, get the good stuff!
PS: Do NOT get Fram filters, don't ask why.
EDIT: If anyone wants to debate the fact that this information is not 100% accurate, trust me, this is not MY opinion, this is info I got from days of research on multiple forums, test sites, cutting oil filters in half, and reading untill my eyes hurt. If I am wrong, then the internet, and the all mighty "Search" button has failed yee!

Yes. 130K miles on my engine with only 1/2 quart loss between changes at 13K mile intervals and oil analysis surveys that show oil is still doing its job when changed.....why use anything else?

Why not cite a source for oil facts--otherwise they're just opinions?
Try http://www.bobistheoilguy.com/forums/
Note that in all instances, what's important is used oil analysis.

I am using Amsoil Euro 5w 40. I have used amsoil synthetic in all my vehicles over the years and never had any issues. Check out their wabsite at amsoil.com they show a very interesting comparison performence chart.

Yes, good site... and I dont exactly feel like wasting 5hrs to find all that crap again. I'm an RX-7 guy, (and you know the bad rep rotaries get!) They are very sensitive to things like oil. I have only owned my benz for 4 months, and and carrying over the attitude from Mazdas. My car also seems to like it... so I dont use anything else. Some engines will like one type of oil, others will like another, with stock cars through, mobil one is just fine.
PS: There is another factor: a portion of people will tell you to never use synthetic for rotaries, but RP is fine for it, they did testing, and the oil does not leave carbon buildup like the lesser synthetics.

I have seen this topic discussed ENDLESSLY on car forums over the years. I think the conclusion is that Mobil 1 is good enough to be standard oil on SOOO many high end performance cars ( viper, MB, etc...) it is good enough for us.
I'm pretty sure most of us arent running our MB's too hard , or have them as track junkies, so I would say its more than efficient.
On another note, I have used Fram oil filters not in my MB, but over the years in all my Hondas, Fords, (daily drivers) never had a problem ( and I have seen the site that has all the filters cut down the middle)
I've ran Mobil 1 in a nitrous boosted NSX at the drag strip, and at Willow Springs, and I am religious to it for the life of this car and my MB.
O well. On one more note, a European shop just suggested that they use a BMW based oil in all their oil changes for MB, and said it was much better...anyone heard of this stuff?

Otherwise, it's irrelevant, and, more importantly, it shouldn't be in your Mercedes.

None use oil, the Vet is run on the track and street.
I have used this oil for about 400000 miles of driving and never and engine problem. Besides the oils used in my cars meet the specifications recommended by the manufacture. So why switch?

Mr. Cobra, when you have an engine mfr that specifies a certain quality standard via his written specification, brand has less importance. The fact that it meets 229.xx is more significant. Does that make sense? The specification eliminates the guess work at the consumer end.
FWIW, I've run M1 products and ELF 229.xx-compliant products in both our cars. I've got multiple UOAs which provide some level of insight as to how the engine is doing. The ELF oils show slightly superior wear numbers in both the gas and diesel engines.
Enjoy.

Only Mobil. It's what AMG tested with and approved and pour in themselves. Yes, there are other approved oils, they can't ensure that Mobil 1 will be available in every market that their cars are.
I have a hard time justifying using something other than what the factory validates and uses as a factory fill.

Who you going to believe some guy on a forum, or a major vehicle manufacturer with who has the ability to perform testing under all conditions the product will be used.

Mercedes racing is sponsored largely by Exxon mobile corp. hence the use of Mobile 1 in there vehicles it is not necessarly the best and only oil to use in your vehicle. Most of the other top end synthetic oils are of similar or even superior quality than mobile 1.

Which component do you not agree with? We all know the stock Conti tires are not the best, the stock wheels are heavy, the stock CAI is not as efficient as a K&N or Green filter, the stock headers do not give the performance of Renntech, Kleemann, VRP, Evotech, etc, the stock pulley does not give the boost of any of the aforementioned.

that pretty much answers it for me.

4 wheels
many of them also license patents from mobil 1. So you tell me who the clear cut innovator for synthetics is? If Ferrari, AMG, Corvette, BMW M, Porsche use them whats so bad about Mobil 1?

Nothing is BAD about them...there are just other alternatives that happen to be BETTER. Perhaps the better products are just overkill and you will be spending extra money for nothing...but I also use vitamins and supplements that many people say is just expensive ****.

You have to weigh the possible benefits of "better" oils against the fact that only Mobil 1 is approved for AMG engines:
https://mbworld.org/forums/attachmen...7&d=1177856937
(page 4).
I don't know why an AMG owner would want to take on the risk of getting into a pissing contest with the factory if anything ever goes wrong with the engine for any reason. No oil is better enough to warrant that liability.
