Unhappy Oil leak from my new S63

I've only had my new S63 for 10 days.... and for the last 4 days it's been parked in the garage. The most I've driven it is the 250+ miles from Dallas to Austin when I bought it on 8/29

This evening I backed it out and noticed an oil puddle on the floor!

What gives? Has anyone had this issue on a car this new? Could it be as simple as something not being tightened, or God forbid - something more complex like a leaking gasket or pipe?

I'm really bummed out about this - can't imagine how this could happen especially if these cars are checked out as much as MB claims they are.

Brownish. It was located right under the belt/front part of the engine in the middle.

Any idea what this might be?

Sounds like motor oil, could be numerous minor things. Take it in and don't worry, be happy The dealer in Austin is probably closer.

Oil pan, had a couple of 63 motors here that I had to reseal the subpan. Also numerous C63'S. Trans cooler lines rubbing against sub oil pan. Will only take 1 full day to drain reseal and let dry.

Don't tolerate a leak on an 09 return it to the dealer immediately. Something is wrong if it is leaking.

Okay - just got back from the dealership....

BAD NEWS

I do indeed have an oil leak! And a bad one at that. As was explained by the service manager - the "front engine cover plate is leaking oil" !! Yup - on a $136,000 car that's 10 days old! Thanks Mercedes - for doing such a wonderful job. Great quality control - I'm sure the guys at Lexus are sweating bullets

To cut a long story short - the nit wits at Ewing say that they "prepped the car" and ran it through a "rigorous check point" and that there were no issues. Of course this is the "sales sleaze ball manager" telling me this and I'm sure he knows a lot about "front engine cover plates" . So then I ask uummm .... aaa....how come I'm leaking oil? He tells me "anything can happen" - "maybe on the 200 mile drive back to Austin something got messed up". I'm like, okaaaaay........ so is driving an S63 for 200+ miles a no no? Of course, by now he's gagging with his foot firmly in his mouth, so he doesn't quite know how to answer that question. I then say okay - MB-Austin is on top of it and I'll be escalating this up the chain.

MB Austin then tells me that the part (a gasket like seal) might have to be ordered from Germany and will take 3-4 weeks

10 mins. ago MB-Austin calls me and tells me that they've "pulled some strings" and will have the part in by Wed. of next week.... and as a goodwill gesture will keep my car indoors so that it's not affected by Ike (the Hurricane, that is)

So, in the meantime I'm stuck driving around in a brand new C350.

Nothing against the C350, but they could've at least given you an
E-Class...not that it compares to the S63, but something with more room.

MB of Austin guys are great though.

Was that tounge-in-cheek or more sincere?

Glad you took it back. There had to be a serious issue given it is a New car. No you didn't do anything to make it leak. Yes it is a factory defect. Every car maker produces cars with defects. Some fewer than others. My E500 03 has had more dealer visits than I care to cover and I would consider the issues specific to a few items and not the total car. But given the $$ and expectations of quality these should have been resolved. The only car with more dealer visits was my 92 lincoln (hanger queen). But the E500 ranks as #2 eventhough it is a much better driver than the Lincoln. I really like the car,, I really hate the number of failures resulting in a 200 mile drive to the dealer. Next car I will take this into consideration.

update:

I just got back from the dealership - the service mgr. was nice enough to offer to take me back to the shop floor and show me what was under the hood with the faulty part. I'll try to explain as best as I can (wish I had my camera with me)

It's the weirdest/strangest thing I've ever seen: There's this smallish grey cover that sits right behind the oil dip stick and based on what the ST/mechanic described - it's the motor/cylinder head cover on the front left side of the engine (BTW there are 2 of these, 1 on the left 1 on the right). There's a tiny microscopic crack/flaw in that cover where the oil is leaking out of!! We could not see the crack with a naked eye but we did see the oil leak/smudge (of course it wasn't actually flowing out since the car has been sitting since yesterday). The mechanic who's actually working on the car told me that when the car heats up the oil would start to squirt/spray out. According to him the crack is probably on the inside of that cover.

They said they've never seen anything like it before and that's why the part needs to be ordered from Germany.

Scratch what I said....I actually meant the Georgetown guys! LoL! They roll out the red carpet when I have to get anything done or simply want the car washed after traveling from Austin back to Killeen.

Hope your part arrives like yesterday man!

This sounds like they found the defect and were willing to show you. I think if you get the new part you will be ok. Impressed the dealership was good enough to find a very small defect,, show it to you, give you a loaner and order the part.
