Is this the oil extraction tube?

And will there be any flak from MB service if the tamper seal is broken? I'm interested in doing a UOA prior to my 10k service to see how the factory fill is performing.

I do 90% short trips 3-4 cold starts a day with occasional 150 mile freeway jaunts maybe twice a month and just wonder about all the short trips and cold starts. 4k on ODO and FSS says service at 10K.

Being **** is okay, but am I too ****?

You ask this and your sig says San Francisco?
I do not think you can be Too **** where you are. Appears to be a way of life for most. Not judging here, just taking notice.

Oil Extraction Tube?

I thought people who had the oil removal pumps used the dipstick tube to suck out the old oil. Mabe I am mis-informed.

That could be for the transmission. If its like my ML it has no dipstick for it but does have the tube. I would leave it alone

NO!

That is not the correct place to remove the oil! It is under the air cleaner housing in front of the firewall on the passenger side. Standing in front of the grill grab the air cleaner housing on the right and left side and pull straight up to remove it.

The tube in the pic is under the plastic housing on the passenger side, but in front not near the firewall. It sure looks like it (oil tube). There's another tube at the rear passenger side next to the fire wall (exposed not under anything) with a plastic plug. That would seem in a "normal" area for tranny fluid.

The port shown is for checking the fuel pressure in the fuel rail.

wow, I had no idea cars were built with an oil extraction tube. All cars are not like this are they? With cars that do this is it better than draining through the sump plug, or do they then not have one? More information on this would be greatly appreciated.

The oil level/quality sensor takes your driving style into consideration when computing service intervals. If it feels you drive the car on a lot of short trips, it will adjust the service intervals accordingly.

I think he means the transmission filler tube has no dipstick. All ML's still have engine oil dipsticks.
