350 CDI Mass Air Flow Manifold

A thread a couple of years ago described changing the sensor boots from left to right to see if the faulty sensor code moved as well . I did this with the help of a heat gun and sure enough the fault went from right B2/7b1 to left B2/6b1 , so I have ordered a new manifold :

The vendor says "After assembly, the air mass meters must be taught." , is this something I can do with my fault code reader or do I need a Mercedes garage ?

You would need a scanner capable to send commands to the ECU

I changed one on the 320 cdi used a snapon unit to set.

When you change air filter then system has to set / relearn

What year is your r350 cdi?

Which engine is in your?

The air flow manifold photo you posted above look like a better design, could you tell me the part number of the one shown in the photo?

Thank you

From the photo and part number it looks like the EU model have an updated air duct and air filter box as the connection to the air box is different.

Could you possible take photo's of your engine area showing the air duct, air box's etc, before your dissemble and parts as you assemble?

Would like to see the parts and get the part number, see if I could up-date mine to the newer parts.

Thank you

Joseph

Thank You

The parts in the photo look like a much better redesign than the previous / latest version that was used / sold the US. The US version looks different..

The engine cover has a front center cooler added, air intake for the air box is set up what looks like a ram-air intake.

The connection's, air box filters to the air intake duct pipe with air mass flow sensor's look much better.

When you get the correct part's, could you please tell me the part numbers.

FWIW....if you have not read a thread titled; "Red seal on PCV breather hose" I posted some comments on, see link;

https://mbworld.org/forums/diesel-fo...ther-hose.html

You may be interested in the thread, as I see in one of the photo's posted shows the older designed red seal for the PVC / control pressure valve{This is what MB call's it] to the air intake duct pipe. The new seal can prevent a very large expensive repair if the seal get sucked into the turbocharger.

The correct part for my year car is A642 090 1642 , the part I sent back was A 642 090 2242 the only difference is the sensor plug connection .
There is also a similar part A642 090 8237 which is used on the ML320 CDI , it's visually different than the above but the same idea .

I visited an independent MB repair centre today to see if there was a quick fix , no and the cheapest they could supply the part was £775 , he agreed it was crazy for a piece of plastic . He said as the car is running ok and my mpg hasn't changed , carry on and see if it starts running rough and then change the part . This is what I'll do at the moment plus put the new filters on , it's a lot of money just to make the engine light go off .

Do you just require the MAF sensors?

The plastic air duct is not cracked.

That's the whole point you can't swap out the sensors they are moulded into the unit , the old versions were bolted in , crazy !

I'e had a change of mind and ordered a new unit , managed to find one £200 cheaper , you never know what faults might occur further down the line better to be safe than sorry .
