Cracked fuel door hinge ? W213

Anyone else have this happen ? How simple to replace ? Assuming the assembly just pops out ?

going to see if the dealer will warranty it , otherwise order a new one. I wondered why my door always tapped against the car when fueling (bought cpo a few months ago) , so today I looked closer.

Do you have factory warranty remaining? Is it a defect or was it operator error?

In WIS it looks like the fuel door and recess assembly needs to be removed. Start by removing the inner wheel well liner, fuel fill pipes, then remove the four screws holding the recess to the body.

A2137572100 paneling, flap --> outer body colored door

If you post your VIN I can look up the recess assembly for your vehicle. There are several versions.

I just looked it up as well. It says remove the right rear fender liner , disconnect hoses , unclip lock mechanism , drill out the 4 recesses , and when reinstalling use rubber plugs (if reusing). Doesn’t say how to remove the fuel door cover.

i do have factory warranty still. I bought this car CPO and the fuel door always felt flimsy , but I noticed it actually touches the body and inspect closed and saw the crack. I would stand firm and say it was there when I got the car 3 months ago.

dealer said bring in and they will assess if they can cover with warranty or not. If not , $308 to repair. New one is $120 shipped online if I install myself but may not be worth it.

If not covered under warranty I would pay the $308. Lots of hassle to pull the wheel well apart. Doable, just a hassle imo.

that’s what I’m thinking - although that instruction is showing a diesel car with adblue as well. Only one hose on mine , and right below this post it showed someone who did it on a GLC without removing the liner.

but yeah , if anything and I have to pay maybe it will assist in the dealer relationship.

Appointment made for Monday. Car is too mint to start hacking into it to save a couple bucks. Told them I would pay if not under warranty, and they ordered the part already for my appointment on Monday in anticipation. Can't argue with that.

update. Went to the dealer today. Advisor indicated not covered under warranty as it looks damaged. Correct part was ordered , wrong part was delivered. They broke the door off during the repair and put me in a loaner until the part arrives.

called MBUSA and indicated that the MB CPO checklist does not check these things and it was like that when I got the car a few months ago. Will see if they goodwill it or not. Either way, another nuisance.

Hope they resolve it quickly for you. Good news you have a loaner.

Update. They replaced it, but didn't order the stickers. if I wanted those, it was another day and $36 + tax. I said leave the stickers off. MBUSA called, they offered a 50% goodwill credit. Dealer insisted on damaged - so I asked to keep the old part. Looking at it, the cracks are starting right at a sharp edge and the crack growth is very smooth compared to the area where the door broke off in the process of them replacing it. Oh yeah, in the process they dinged the panel with the door and then claimed it was there when I dropped off. I argued, got them to get their PDR guy to come fix it. There is a slight scuff on the new ceramic coating - have an apt with the detailer this weekend and will get that polished out and possibly recoated locally.

What a pain. What pissed me off the most about this is the part is designed poorly (looks like it to me at least with my engineer eyes) and it's still somewhat out of pocket, but then the dealer thought I was lying about the dent being new. I had asked to see the guy who checked the car in because I pointed out specifically to him that I wanted it replaced because I didn't want to scratch or dent the car if it swung open. I saw him come back from lunch and he said he didn't pay attention but didn't remember seeing the dent.. but either way, they pulled the dent and the scuff in the coating will be taken care of this weekend (my expense).

Anyone else have a fuel door hinge crack, post up. Maybe if a bunch of people call MBUSA about it they will do something, but they said they never heard of it before.
