Me Connect Renewal - Wipes Out Profile

Not sure if this is the right place - I have a 257 and not a lot of chatter in that forum. I think Me Connect should have its own home.

My subscription lapsed by 2 days due to travel and having to call MBUSA because the app / web site purchase process was not intuitive and the agent could not take my credit card and process the transaction on the phone.

After I renewed my subscription, I unlocked my car and guess what - every single setting in the car was wiped out. All radio settings - all map destinations I had added - dashboard setup - seat positions - lighting etc. The only thing that did not get wiped out was my garage door programming.

I called Me Connect and they said if you let it lapse they wipe everything out!! I said why don’t you put that in your renewal email - that’s a real call to action - pay us $150 before your renewal ends or we will wipe out everything in your car!!!

I know these are first world problems and I am grateful to own such an amazing car - but this is a tad annoying.

Anyway to restore - I never did a back up - never thought about.

They wipe the server data, which is to be expected if you let the subscription expire. Pretty much all online services delete your data if you cancel your subscription. What happened in case of your car I'm guessing is that you were using an online profile and had automatic syncing enabled, so once your subscription got reactivated the profile on the server was an empty default profile which then automatically synced to your car. You could have disabled the automatic syncing before renewing the subscription and then re-export it to the server first, or switch to a local profile. Hindsight is 20/20 I know. Unfortunately, unless you previously exported your settings and backed them up to a USB stick or SD card the only way to restore it is manually reconfiguring everything.

Update - this morning I clicked on the profile icon I had made after the “reset” and it took me to a menu that had both my new and old profile. This option / menu was missing after the “reset”. I picked the old profile and suddenly my radio presets came back. I checked my recent locations / favorite addresses in the map destinations and they were still wiped out. The dashboard cluster was was still reset things like the lock alarm settings to beep were still wiped out.

I will keep playing around with it.

Thanks for the detail / background on the setup. Big lesson learned for sure - will get everything dialed back in and will make sure to back it up. I think if I get an Apple AirTag and leave it in the car and use my cell phone for navigation / weather - there is not a ton of need to keep the service updated.

I don’t mind the $150 but going through this non-sense is a terrible user experience. You would think they would at least keep the data for 30 days to give people the opportunity to renew - especially with how akward the renewal payment process is!

Sounds like the technology people are running the operation with no common sense business analysts to point out the obvious to the genius computer nerds.

Not sure what issues you were having with renewing. I've renewed three times so far and each time was a simple online transaction through the Mercedes me connect Store. Never had an issue. They give you 30 days notice, so you can renew up to 30 days before the services expire.
