Aftermarket TPMS?

Hi all, I was wondering if anyone could recommend an aftermarket TPMS that I could use on our 2018 E400 Coupe? I was thinking one that reports to a phone app and the type that screws onto the valve stem would be the way to, this way I can use it on each set of wheels. Any advice is appreciated. Thanks.

What happened to the TPMS sensors that are mounted on your wheels?

Apparently this car never had them. The dealer tells me that its a passive system and takes wheel speed from the ABS sensors. It only works once the air pressure is low enough to cause the one wheel to turn faster than the others. The dealer says that this car isn't capable of reading actual tire pressure sensors like what an active system would have so there is no point in installing a set.

Our other vehicles have had active TPMS and have let us know if a tire is low so I can deal with it before it lets us down. This why I'm looking for an aftermarket solution.

Interesting -- Canada and the US are largely harmonized in safety and emissions, but TPMS is apparently an exception.

Schrader makes a retrofit kit for non-equipped TPMS vehicles -- https://www.tpms.com/Schrader-TPMS-R...g&gad_source=1

I forgot to mention that the dealer says that none of the cars in our model year have active TPMS if they were originally equipped with run-flats. Not sure if that was/is just a Canadian thing or if he was just feeding me a line...

I checked out the Schrader kit but I'm looking for one that reports to an android, mostly because I don't like the look of added gadgets.

When I was a kid we had this thing called a tire pressure gauge. You would take the cap off take out the little thing and then watch the indicator slide out of its butt. AND WE LIKED IT!!!!

There are Android reporting systems made for trailers that might work for you.

TPMS has been mandatory in the US for all cars since and including model year 2008.

I'm not sure this atricle is accurate since I though had its own controller and operated separately from the ECU (called PCM in the article). But I could be wrong.

They also work on motorhomes, so a tire is a tire. It looks like the transmitter is screwed onto the valve stem. I would think that would work.

There might be some trailer systems that use integrated sensors (mounted from inside the tire/wheel). I would prefer paying the installation fee for this rather than having the sensor mass mounted on the valve stem on the outside. But you're right -- a tire is a tire to a TPMS sensor.

So I've done some more digging and it looks like an TPMS is not mandatory in Canada. Weird because I don't know off hand of any newer vehicles up here that don't have it except for our E400 coupe... It makes me wonder what the mindset was with Mercedes-Canada to offer a car like this and then cheap out on an active TPMS.

Going forward I'll look into a TPMS for RV trailers.as was suggested. Thanks!

My Theory is that it was not installed to stop export of less expensive Canadian vehicles going to the US. They have to meet current US standards and therefore would not be permitted to import. You can add it but it requires TPMS sensors, TPMS module and a programming change. I did it. https://mbworld.org/forums/gle-class...ml#post8454724

If had to do it again I would just use the TST 507 - I have it on my trailers.

Lots of them on here. I've used them on my RV but couldn't tell you the name. They change names so get something that gets good ratings. I'm sure Amazon has these also.

I just found this on AliExpress: $40.34 | Solar/USB Powered Tire Pressure Monitoring System with 4 Sensors Tire Pressure Monitor System LCD Display for RV Sedan SUV Truck
