People its a passive system as our friend Greg has shown. I do not know any manufacturer that has a dedicated system for headlights. Clean headlights are not required by law but a clean windshield is. You complainers would be the first top ***** when you ran out of washer fuild for the windshield right??? I don't like it either I would like a dedicated system but $$$$
You could get what Audi has lights get cleaned everytime you wash the windshield but that sucks as overkill getting rid of bugs.. Dont worry gang be happy :o)

M-B used to have a manual switch for all vehicles equipped with headlight washers (my W163 had one), but they have moved away from it to the current passive system that activates itself in conjunction with the # of windshield wash cycles.

My 2006 W164 has a dedicated switch for the Headlight washers. It is not visible when sitting in driving position. It is placed between the Lights switch and the steering column. It is great to clean slush and mud after snow storms. Details on page 194 in the Owner's Manual.

Headlights will squirt if you hit the spray button 4 times in succession on the stalk, you get 2 squirts on each side. You have to hit em fast. Its not that great of a system. Just makes a big mess everywhere.

It's a great system ONLY during the winter months, with lots of highway driving. On the Audi's you can Vag-Com it and have it deactivate. Wonder if you can do the same with MBs.
During the summer months sometimes you need to clean off the bugs on the windshield on a fairly clean car, but it just make a mess like someone mentioned.
