My new 2017 SLC 43 AMG

mike from upstate ny here, purchased a 2017 SLC 43 AMG Roadster. Absolutely love it so far, can’t wait foe warmer weather so I can enjoy it more. I have a question about the horns, they sound almost muffled, very quiet when the button is pushed. There both working I checked that. Any ideas ??

I actually joined this forum last year when I bought my first used MB and it's been a roller coaster ride since. I picked up a 2006 ML500 with ~145K miles for $3K and so far feel like it's a never ending quest to bringing her to a like new ride (at least to me) condition. Figured it's about time I make my first post and list what I've done so far since in the year I've owned it and what I am about to tackle next. She was in very poor condition when I got her and still has a ways to go. Sometimes I wish I had given up sooner but at times feel like I'm committed to keep going and keeping her at least for a little while. I have invested a little over $4K to date doing nearly all the labor myself and hoping that all this will be worth it in the end!
- New Battery
- Repaired 4 exhaust leaks
- Replaced what appeared to be the OEM NGK spark plugs with Bosch Platinum Plus Spark Plug 7422
- New Bosch Wire Set
- New MAF sensor (Ebay special which worked like a charm)
- New Coolant Reservoir
- Replaced Drivers Door Power window control switch
- Replaced badly corroded rear Brake lines from mid section back along with new rear brake line hoses.
- New Front/Rear Brake Calipers/Brake fluid flush
- Replaced both Parking Brake Backing Plates (which were badly corroded) along with new parking shoes/hardware
- Replaced OEM Rear Shocks with a set of Ebay specials along with new rear sway bar links.
- New AC Compressor and Dryer
- New Idler pulley, tensioner, drive belt
- New Power Steering Pump/Reservoir/Power Steering Hose/Rack and Pinion/Steering Angle Sensor/Alignment
Now working on the suspension, starting with the rear. The rear shocks I replaced made a huge difference but believe the passenger side shock I replaced was bad form the get go since it makes a knocking sound whenever it goes over bumps..That's what I get for buying cheap made in china ebay specials so looking into investing a bit more along with replacing both rear springs which look like they are on their last leg. I also want to replace the rear control arms and/or bushings but costs are quickly spiraling. Anyways, thanks all for the many posts that I have read leading me to where I am now. It has certainly been a "learning" experience!

The ML500 W163 was said to be the one with the best engine. I don't think your expenditure is excessive, although I wouldn't try to get it back to 'as new' condition as it would be cheaper to buy a brand new car.... When I got my ML320 (2000) in 2013, I figured I would effectively have to buy it again every year, which hasn't quite been true as maintenance and repairs have only averaged 450GBP a year until this year when I thought I would treat it as it was its 21st birthday! I have spent nearly 2000GBP so far already this year and still want to replace the spark plugs with NGK iridium and the fuel filter and maybe change the transmission oil and also the differentials, as well as a load of cosmetic stuff, like all the pillar trim fabric. I thought I would have a final fling with a gas guzzler before the UK police state bans everything that does less than 50mpg...
Not completely new to the forum, but 1st time posting our most recent addition: 2016 GLE 350 4matic. Purchased the fall of 2019 with about 27K miles. Have put about 12K miles on it since then and loved every mile. A perfect ride for the family.

Welcome Lukejoel, the first thing I recommend you is to have a definition of what kind of car you are looking for, a wagon, a SUV, a coupe... Depending on the model and the year it was produced it has some common problems. I had a E240 of 1999 that was great, easy to maintain and comfortable. On the other hand, I have a GL500 of 2007 that is not comfortable, it is very expensive to maintain and has some common problems that make me feel this car is not a Mercedes but a Chinese car.

Don't know if this forum is still alive but 2 weeks ago, I bought my first AMG. A 2018 GLC 63. This is after owning 7 Audis for 11 years straight, it was time for something new. And I'm so glad I did.
