1993 mercedes benz SL500
nbi to mb 500sl
Hi all. Just purchased a 1993 500SL to restore. The only good thing about this car is it's fairly low mileage compared to what I've seen on ebay and other publications. This one has 91K. The fellow I purchased from inherited this one. His Father must have lived in the country with all the paint chips on the front bumper. Engine is real strong, interior is better than average.
I've been working on cars since I was a kid. 77 and climbing. I finished restoring a '70 Chevelle SS454 and sold 5 years ago. Have a '69 Grand Prix SJ428 in the garage fully restored. I'm 2 months into this one and coming along fine. Lots of new parts. Should be in the booth in couple weeks. Black paint with dark red interior. The previous owner didn't like the red top so he sanded it off. Was real proud of how it looked. That will go to black. I've see photos of the red top, don't much care for that color.
Thanks to YouTube, I've gotten lots of great use out of the repair videos they supply on this vehicle.
I'm changing the halogen to HID. Buying the ones made in Germany. A bit more expensive but has a lifetime warranty compared to others with 2 years. Seems to be an easy install.
I can't find any info on what material the top is made of. I think it's aluminum. Any suggestions? Will make a difference how I prep the metal prior to primer and paint.
The previous owner installed a high end Sony radio with all the bells and whistles which I've removed and replaced with the original. Besides it looks better in the console. I'm thinking of installing a Flowmaster. I've read where the original exhaust creates too much backpressure. Besides, I like the sound of a good exhaust. Appreciate any suggestions or comments you might have.

Hello everyone, I'a Dan.
Long time reader first time talker. I need help and fast. read all the posts, but none helped in my dilema. I know one off you professionals will be able to help. I am trying to finish my 2001 W220 and a friend offered me his 19/9 rims with the offset 50 for my car brand new tires 235/35/19 and 235/30/19. will they fit the W220 as is or do i have to change tires and get spacers, and if yes what size tires and which spacers. I will appreciate a quick response since this is time sensitive - he has a buyer. Thank you and greatfull

With limited knowledge of MBs and not knowing any enthusiast owners personally, glad to see a community of drivers including DIYers that can hopefully help and influence my potential future purchase.

2013 C300 4Matic Sport Plus,2006 Porsche Carrera S, 2008 Suzuki SV650, 2014 GLK350 4Matic (Wife's)
Hi all, name is Dave, just picked up a 2013 C300 4Matic Sport, I belive its a "Sport Plus" or "956" (has all the red stiching/18" AMG wheels) in white, love the car.
My other ride is a street fighter moded SV650 naked. Previously was into the VW/Audi thing, won a couple trophys with a 98 Jetta I built years back, since then had a B5 A4, and '04 R32.
Do all my own work on my cars/bikes. Work in financial services but I'm repressed mechanic at heart.
I promise no Vortex style hate posts from me! More of a forum lurker/searcher than poster.
Located in the Capital area/Northern Hudson Valley NY
Are there any GTGs in the NY area?

'99 ML320 & '12 ML350 BlueTec
Hello to All
Hello board members. My name is George. I am the owner of a '99 ML320 (162k), and always seem to be driving my wife's '12 ML350 BlueTec (34k). Being the willing driver in the family has its privileges!
I'm a part-time DIYer (when I have the chance, and when I know (think - lol) I can do it).
I've been on this board many, many times (thanks to all).
As a result, I've fixed/pinpointed a few items on my '99 (my good friend was original owner):
Replaced window switch/lock panel;
Replaced pin/block on loosened driver side door panel;
Prevented Hood latch from getting stuck and causing head aches as I saw on board;
Help with radio fuse during battery replacement.
Knew what was wrong from board with carrier bearing failure (on highway - had long time trusted shop repair it);
Knew when MAF was bad even w/o code (code confirmed), plus throttle body/PVC cleaning.
Other than that, standard stuff to maintain this '99 rock solid piece of German engineering...
This board gave me the confidence to push my local MB dealership (which has excellent service and an old school German service advisor in the shop who is "the man") to look for some bulletins when they couldn't figure out wind chatter on windows (driving highway speeds) for the (then) brand new '12 ML350. They lubed the window tracks, and I discussed the possibility of the windows not interacting well with the frame. They eventually found some new data (since the car was new) about a month later - it was the seals' design. they fixed it!
One quick, great road story so as to not bore you too much: was driving from DC to NYC area. My '99 ML320 had 155k on it, was 15 years old. I tend to drive super efficiently with known techniques, but I out did myself. I got 24.7 mpg on way up, including local lights and bits of stop and go traffic at some points in the 288 mile trip. Took a photo of my display too - lol.

w210 e430 kombi and w208 clk320
hi from Germany (in portuguese)
Hi everyone!
My name is Francisco, and today i have posted for the first time in my life
I come from Portugal but live in Germany at the moment.
I drive a w210 e430 Kombi from 1997, and have been making an extensive project out of it. Getting very excited about the quality of the car, even tough its age, and mileage, (253000km / 157206mi).
I have many ideas to improve/ renew some parts in my car, and, as over the years of googling about mercedes technical aspects, i always ended up in this forum , i gave in to subscription, and now hope for understanding in the language that is spoken in this place.
Cumprimentos / best regards
