Newbie from SW New Hampshire
Good Morning,
Just checking-in. Yesterday I put a deposit on a CPO 2014 ML350BlueTec 4Matic. I'm one of the people affected by the VW TDI Issue so this is my upgrade/replacement. Over the years (going fast) I've owned many vehicles that were allot of fun, e.g. '58 Mercedes Sedan, Porsche 914 and Carrera, Mercedes 240 (twice), Land Rover Discovery & Ranger Rover, 99' Lotus Esprit (big service bills), Lexus Sedan and SUV, VW TDI Sportwagen (49 MPG but o-so-wrong) and soon the ML350.
Ever since we heard the TDI Issue my wife and I started looking at quality SUVs, I was looking at the BMW X5 and almost pulled the trigger but heard lots of Service Issues & cost with their diesels. Not a fan of the Japanese interior styling although our '99 RX300 has done us well w/258K miles it will remain our Winter Rat. Wanted to stay with the German Interior Styling so started shopping around and found a pristine ML350 Diesel coming off a 2 year lease down in FL with only 18K Miles and pretty much loaded, the Rear Entertainment System was never used, not that we will. So here I am, I know I'll be asking the members questions from time to time.
Not much of a mechanic though, early in my life I was doing a simple tune-up at the Pearl Harbor Auto Hobby Shop (so I thought) on my '58 Mercedes and with shop manual open chalked marked the distributor, pulled it out and while placing it on the table my oil soaked hands removed the mark so it took over 2 weeks to get it started, that's when I realized I was not mechanically inclined. I do maintain my JD 790 Compact Tractor, changing oil and filters but thats the limit of my talents. THANK YOU

Picking Up Used ML350BT in FLA driving it to NH
Good Morning - Since completing the long distance purchase of the '14 CPO ML350BT from a FL Dealership, I've been studying the basic operation of the vehicle in prep for my flight down and drive back to NH. The distance doesn't bother me but I'm a little worried with the complexity of the "Command System". I went on-line and downloaded the "Command Manual" ...yikes! 270 pages. Wish there was a simple PC Based application where you could create your trip and download to the Navigation System. I suspect once I get familiar with it no problem but I'll be ready to get on the road ASAP with no advanced training......
Also, in reviewing several YouTube Videos about the ML350 one repeating negative comment came out, the location of the Transmission Gear Changer (for lack of a better term) on the steering column, OH-NO ! in the same location as my Lexus Wiper Control, I'll have to do something to deter subconsciously hitting that when the rain begins.
.... Has anyone else had that same trouble, one video warned not to shift the car in reverse. Is that even possible when traveling at a high speed...... DANGER Will Robinson !

Will,
There will be a message saying you need to stop before shifting. The turn signal/ wiper control/ cruise will take some time to get used to....That's why my 2007 is my best driver....Dan
