New to MB...need counseling.
Long time car guy here...classic musclecars (1969 Chevelle, 1971 442, 1970 GTO), modern muscle (2010 Challenger R/T, 2012 CTS-V) and offroad (2006 Ram with full offroad suspension and Cummins). I traditionally do 90% of my own wrenching. My lovely wife had an accident with her Challenger and got bitten by the GLC Coupe bug and so now we own a 2018 GLC43 AMG Coupe with extremely low miles (18k). While I'm impressed with the car, the sheer amount of technology and interconnected systems on it is giving me long term reliability anxiety.
Any MB reliability counselors out there? Are the AMG engines still hand assembled by a single tech in a special factory deep in the bowels of Germany? Can I take the VIN to a MB dealer to pull service records?

Yes, the AMG engines are still handbuilt, but the engine in the GLC43 is not an AMG engine. It's a regular MB engine tuned by AMG. Traditionally only the 63 (M177/178 V8) and 45 (M139 I4) models have handbuilt engines. The new generation C43 and GLC43 now have the handbuilt 4-cylinder M139 engine. Modern cars have lots of electronics and software and it continues to be a source of issues, especially the software. The good news is electronics follow the so-called bathtub curve. They either fail early in their lifecycle or late towards the end of their useful service life. Electronics don't typically fail in the middle of the lifecycle.
