Engine Swap
I'm not sure what his screen name is, but the guy from MBAutowerks (?) dropped a Kleemann SCed 5.5. liter in to an old C chassis and had it running 11s at the strip. I think he subsequebtly added an NOS system, however, I'm not certain.

yea.. it's a 2JZ-GTE in a benz, it's pretty common in many of the asian countries. whatever the cost, i'm sure it's less than $120k

Maybe I'll drop one in my 190E and get more than 700 horsies out of it.
OH SHNAP!

Maybe I'll drop one in my 190E and get more than 700 horsies out of it.
then i don't understand why anyone would take more than two years to build a car that might not even live up to its expectations.
everyone must have their reasons and explanations though.
more power to the dog that walks crooked when he can hold the frisbee in his mouth!
what?
so what are you getting done on your car?
and how much did it cost?
I don't have the financial resources to play around with tuning MB.... the money you spend, one could probably get a Ferrari
I have a 240SX swapping in a SR20DET a while back.. that little project took over a year.. normally a month or so, but I let my friend's shop who HAD NEVER done the swap to do..(they mainly do Honda swaps) .. and there were lots of little hurdles like missing parts, rewiring.. some more rewiring.. broken parts.. etc.
but anyway, the point is, to really tune and fully modified a car, you REALLY need to spend time.. and as I learned, its better to go to the reputable guys EVEN if it cost more.. but as aforementioned, I am just a lonely poor Canadian hick who is chopping woods to keep the house warm and cozy
Go Flames !!!
In summary: Engine: 6.3 liter conversion, lowered compression ratio, complete custom manufactured engine components, higher boost Kleemann SC. We have had alot of delay because of the custom spec'ed parts.
Upgraded transmission, custom Brembo BBK, ECU tuning, custom H&R coilovers, chromaly rollcage, custommized Lorinser DTM bodykit (to fit 305s in the rear) and CL hood/grill combo. The seats have been removed and the fronts are being replaced with carbon fiber race seats. Redoing all the trim in CF and some other interior panels are being replaced with CF.
Some guys on this board don't understand why I don't care that it has taken so long, but they really have no clue. It did cost alot, but, I happen to have an idiosyncratic desire to build a crazy W208 CLK. My next desire is to tune a 360 Modena F1. We'll see if that comes to fruition, but there is definitely going to be another tuner project after the CLK.
How far along are you in this project? Sounds like you're going to be putting out some major hp, whats your projected hp?
700 would be nice, but I don't think that will happen on 91 octane. I think somewhere b/t 650-700 is more realistic. I don't want it running with too much boost. I'm definitely looking forward to the engine, but I'm also psyched to see how the chromaly rollcage and coilovers are going to affect the handling. Nothing is going to cure the feel of the steering, but the handling should be vastly improved with the stiifer chassis, tuned suspension and 200-250 lbs saved from losing the seats, hood, stereo, etc.
Let me answer that for you. I didn't even realize what was going on in this thread until now. You have a couple of guys making snide indirect comments about my CLK project, instead of just coming out and saying what they really want. The truth is, none of them really know anything about my car or the nature of my relationship with Evosport. Furthermore, they can hate all they want, but the reality is, they don't even have the resources to be able to do a project of the scale of my CLK. They can't imagine why someone would spend so much and be willing to wait so long and work with a growing business rather than giving their money to a company like Brabus or Renntech, however, that is a result of the fact that they aren't in a position to be able to make those kind of choices. Furthermore, as great as the Supra engine is, name one reputable MB tuner who uses that block as a solution for creating high hp MBs.
How many project cars has Evosport worked on? Is yours the first? It's a steep learning curve. That's probably why they ordered wrong pistons and had to order two sets of custom made rods. Not to mention a messed up interior and your lack of brakes....
Then again, I could be blowing stuff out of my butt for fun. It's all speculation until the car finally starts and rolls out of the SHO SHOP.
The dog with the collar is the one who will eat and get chubby!
Sleestack, how much weight are you saving from the hood? Will it be the normal CL hood, or a custom CF hood? I also heard way back that Ben was planned on making a CF trunk, if enough people became interested? I believe that in the end, the money you put in your CLK will be well worth it. 600+hp with less weight = a unique king of all cars
