Greetings from a newbee!
Looking for some input after reading some threads here (very helpful already);
Looking to buy a used R350 (or even 500 though the MPG worries me a bit for that one, given that the car will commute for 75 miles a day)
Forst of all, forgive me, I am still a tourist here in NJ (for 5 years now), coming from Amsterdam.
If I read everything correctly then it seems that used R350's are cheaper in CA (the West) then here in the East. Am I correct?
I am trying to get a great deal (looking for light interior, pano, park assist and preferable prem sound and navi (but not needed). But here they advertise 06's with around 30K miles for $33K (granted, most CPO but the warranty ends next year anyway.
Any thoughts? Anyone having what I am looking for maybe?
best,

BTW, my sister and her childen are from Holland too and in U.S. now to visit my family for 2 weeks and leave U.S. next week.

depending on how you drive, R350 might be fine on the power.
if you're looking for specific options/colors that are popular, that may be one of the main reasons for the higher prices. also, from what i've observed, R prices have actually lifted a bit in the past yr. last nov, when we got our CPO 2006 R500 fully loaded(MSRP $70k), the going price was $25-30k. it appears that there are not too many 2006 R's for sale now, and the prices are still about the same.
p.s. although we like our car, there are enough little things that go wrong that it's important to have warranty, ideally bumper/bumper until 7 yrs/100k. good luck.
Patrick
For instance, there's a 2007 R500 for sale right now with less than 18,000 miles in the low $30's.

I bought a '06 R350 27,000 miles silver with tan interior for $24,000 with a 4 year warranty to take the place of the MB warranty. Can take it to any dealership and pay no more the $75 out of pocket.
No parking asst but for $800 more I hade a an iTronic module put in for OEM phone and iPod connection.
Deals can be had!
Just found out the air baffle in lower cushion of driver seat in the multi-countour driver seat is bulging due to a leak. I was surprised that my MB advisor said that it's covered under the original 4 yrs/50k warranty, but IS NOT COVERED by the 7yrs/100k STARMARK!!! has anyone had this baffle problem w/ their lower seat cushion, and has anyone received coverage before? Any suggestions - shall I try another dealer? It's really not a big deal for me other than cosmetics at this point.
P.S. The passengers side previous had same problem 2 months ago and dealer fixed under good will as my car had 52k at the time - now it has 54k.

Thanks all and sorry to hear about the seat Buzz..
Does anyone know if I can get extended warranty when I just show up with a car (looking to buy from a private party..) at a mercedes dealer?
best,
Patrick

You cannot just add the warranty. The certification itself is about $2500 and that's only for the one-year of coverage, plus you can't cover a car for a current owner (i suppose if it meant that much to you, you could let your wife buy the car, then sell to you through the dealer), but check this out with them beforehand, obviously. I have found from buying both new and pre-owned through my dealer that they are better to work with and more apt to lean my way on a grey-area warranty coverage question if i've bought the vehicle from them and they know of it's service history. If you're serious about wanting the real MB extended warranty (in which i am a firm believer-i have it on both my NEW cars as well as the pre-owned one), then buy the car from the dealer in the first place, IMHO.
No, Parktronic is not add-able at the dealer afterward. It is doable by a couple of forum members on here who make rounds and installs, but it would not be inexpensive as you would be buying lots of parts and rerouting lots of wiring. So, like anything, it CAN be done, but it's probably not worth it for the money you'd spend to add it-just keep looking for one with it(don't most have it anyway)?
Good luck.
I'm thinking installed parts or rare options from the wreck into a solid unit. And if you keep the solid one ... you can even swap out engines / trans. when yours wear out -- who needs a warranty?
Yes Yes - in an ideal world - I know I know. You need a large garage, tools, and a mechanic friend, and still some Dealer service.
