trailer hitch install

Having read the thread about installing a trailer hitch on an R500, I then noticed a remark, without elaboration, that an R500 with air suspension can be problematic. My R500 has the air suspension and the panoramic roof (also said to present a difficulty, but apparently unfounded from the posted installation instructions). Does anyone have any insight into the purported air suspension issue?

I have an 08 320 with air suspension and I had an after market hitch installed along with the wiring harness.

I can honestly say that all is okay and have yet to have an issue.

The hitch and harness came from an aftermarket source and the dealer installed it for me.

R350 After Market Hitch Install

I have an 06 R350 and am in the market for an after-market hitch, mainly for my bike rack. A local Draw-Tight dealer has recommended one they make (75470). I'm concerned about how adding such a hitch might affect the rear profile of the car. Any experience with this or similar hitches and how the car looks after they are installed would be greatly appreciated.

The only part visible on my car is the receiver. It's very neat and clean.

I can see that I'll have to re-paint the hitch from time to time, but that's not a big deal.

Very glad to have it.

I love the color of your car. I have a tan one.

I stopped in today to look at a newer one and our colors were discontinued in 2010 & 2011.

My hitch has a smaller profile. I don't think yours looks bad and I like mine being there in case I bottom out - it will hit the hitch and not the rip the fiberglass.

I want to chime in here because, my husband was very pushy to have me install a hitch on my R500 to tow our 3 seat waverunner and I fought it simply because to me this is my baby and I didnt want salt water getting on my 22's and also because I was afraid due to the airmatic suspension.

So my solution I bought a 4x4 dodge durango strictly for towing the waverunner and future boat.

However from the looks of rgood10921's R, it looks pretty discreet

The hitch on this car is less discreet than others I have done. It does hang down. A picture of the side profile is more telling than the rear view.

Hitch is on. Looks good. It's fully integrated into the car's computer. It will even let you know if one of your trailer lights is out, and which one.

The rear camera sure is handy for lining up to the trailer when preparing to attach it.

The factory installation on the later models puts the hitch lots higher up.

R350 hitch installation

I just installed a Hidden Hitch class 3 hitch on my 2007 R350. There was no problem with predrilled holes lining up, but the included instructions say nothing about cutting the body-colored fascia under the rear bumper. I had to remove the hitch entirely 3 times to trim enough to reaooach the plastic pan. A dremel cutting disk works great, but careful of the melted
plastic.
