Expansion Valve Location on R Class

Anyone know where the expansion valve is on the R Class. Is it easily accessed, or should I pay someone to do it.

I saw that, but didn't understand what I'm looking at. Is it in the engine compartment or behind the dash?

While not an R-Class, this video may help:

Thanks. The firewall on an R Class is about a foot in beyond the hood hinge. I'm hoping there's an easier way to get to it than this on the R Class. I'll do some looking tonight.

Looked at my W166 tonight. If I were to do this on my car, I would remove the cowl cover (no fasteners, it slips and clips in), small air duct or cowl drain (no fasteners), left (driver's side) and center bulkhead panels. The bulkhead panels seem relatively easily removed with a small number of accessible fasteners on the W166. On my vehicle the refrigerant tubes (pictured) penetrate the dash panel near the inboard edge of the steering wheel. I am not 100% certain the TXV can be removed after disconnecting the refrigerant tubes. This idea follows what is shown on the ML320 video above.

From this: https://mercedes-benz-publicarchive....tml?oid=453321

And this: https://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Merced...z_Baureihe_251

It seems the W164/X164 platforms may share parts or portions of the architecture. Look at mercedesbenzstarparts at the X164 TXV and it can be imagined that is it similar to the R-Class. The parts diagram requires some guesswork.

2008 R Class Expansion Valve Location

So, the search continues. I actually am having the fender (and Xenon Headlight assembly) replaced on the R Class (someone backed a trailer into it.)

I had the guy snap a couple of pictures. You can see the tire in the left lower corner.

This confirms my theory that the valve isn't in the engine bay/firewall. You can see the lines came through the inner fender wall and down, then insulated and head under the floor, just beneath the steering column.

Now where?
