S550 Convertible/CABRIOLET

I am looking at a pre-owned 2017 S550 Convertible/CABRIOLET fully loaded with every option (163K original MSRP). It has around 30K Miles.

Is their anything special to look for or reasons to stay away from the 2017 or the Convertible/CABRIOLET S550 models in general? I've been looking for W222 or Convertible/CABRIOLET for quite some time (can't wait to switch to MB coming from BMW X7 "note: I don't mind the lesser space").

reasons to NOT consider a 2017 S cabriolet
- Sub par audio system , even with the Burmister optional upgraded audio package - This was so flat , event the factory rep commented. Compared to other audio systems , even the base audio in other Mercedes , it was terrible
- Telematics was poorly designed , just making a phone call was a challenge. Versions behind even mercedes vehicles of the circa
-Seat massage'rs were imperceptible
-Vehicle had blind spots unexpected
- big car however rear seat was only good for small children
- Low front end dragged on way to much
- Reach for some control functions for the driver was excessive

Reasons To consider an S Cab
- smooth engine and transmission

I had a S cab 2017 , This was The worst vehicle I ever owned , Overpriced , underwhelming., disappointing. Mercedes was useless in resolving any issues other than an insulting offer of $5K is I bought another another mercedes within one year. I told them to keep their coupon. Couldn't get rid of it fast enough. A complete disaster of car in my opinion.

Thanks you. I passed on the couple and got a fully loaded Sedan S560 facelift with every single option checked, argininal MSRP of ~152K. Glad with my decision. Purchased it from a private seller.

Porsche guy who drives SL63 w/ perf pkg AND perf suspension
I think the S coupes are the best cars around, for large size coupe style cars. Compare to the exotics like bentley, maserati, aston

I would not get a S Cabriolet. I would get either the coupe or sedan. I think a 4 seater cabriolet makes no sense. Get a SL instead of you want an open top.

That is 4 seater convertibles in general. They are an awful mix of impractical and practical making them the worst of both worlds lol.

Strange. My results are very different. I don't have a Cabriolet - I have a Coupe. The car is exceptional and MBZ has been very good for the service required. Different opinions I guess.

I have always found coupes to be enjoyable. 2 CLK’s and a CL I enjoy the coupes and love the lines of them. They look much cleaner vs the cabriolets that always look awful with the soft tops. Also, soft tops are very problematic.

I have owned many Cabriolets/Coupes for many years. They are not supposed to be practical cars! There are 2 types of Cabriolets/Coupes, Sporty Cabriolets/Coupes (usually 2 seaters) and Luxurious Cabriolets/Coupes (usually 4 seaters) and amongst the Luxury Cabriolets/Coupes the S-Class especially after the facelift (2018-2021) is second to none in terms of luxury, safety, performance, and appearance. This is evident in almost every journal review of that car. Of course the AMG variants with bigger engines and tuned suspensions offer even more in terms of performance but still not supposed to be a sports car.

I agree 100%. I guess that is why Baskin-Robbins and Robins sells 32 flavors😊

SL does not drive as good as the S-couple. The reason I wanted the S-couple is because i wanted the driving experience of the S-class. Anyway I ended up getting a fully loaded Sedan S560

2017 S550 coupe, 2013 E550 coupe, 2008 Tahoe
I just got a 2017 S550 coupe and think its the best of both versions as far as the engine/trans combo. No other year has the 4.7 with the 9G trans. I was on the fence with the pros and cons of facelift vs. pre-facelift. I love them but the facelift coupe does have some cons such as some convenient buttons have moved location or no longer present, in my opinion the 4.0 engine is not as great, some don't come with HUD as it became a stand alone option in 2019 I think, I believe there is an idle gear issue (maybe a recall) on the 4.0 that can tank an engine and probably a few others I can't think of right now. I am just proud to be an owner of one period to the point that after purchase I have already dropped additional $11k on warranty (CPO 2yr ext. $4500), upgrades (tint, PPF, benz-ninja,etc. $5k) and a few fixes ($1500). I think its a piece of artwork and plan to have mine for a very long time.

2019 s-class coupe 2018 GLE 350 SUV2017 S-class cabriolet
I bought new a 2017 s-550 cabriolet and a 2019 s-560 coupe.
The only problem I have had was a faulty condensor in the 17 cab.
I agree with most comments. The coupe is the better looking vehicle.
The reason I have the cab is it allows me the option to enjoy top down motoring, if and when I want.
Also, it is more convenient to enter and exit than a 2 seat convertible and it is more comfortable and roomier.
Further, should the need arise to accommodate 1 or 2 additional passengers that too is available.
A happy cab and coupe owner.

500 CLS
I just wanted to share my thoughts on the two best cars I've ever owned: the Mercedes S Coupe 500 and my current ride, the S 560 Cab. These two gems have provided me with an unparalleled driving experience (although I must give an honorable mention to my old 1964 300 SE Cabrio, which the 560 Cab seems to reincarnate in spirit).

The only thing I initially missed from the Coupe was the Burmester 3D HiFi system. However, I resolved this by upgrading the original Burmester in my 560 Cab to a MOSCONI-BLAM Signature system, which has truly outperformed the Coupe's 3D system.

I am so satisfied with my current 560 Cab that no other car on the market is even catching my eye. I plan on keeping this beauty for many years to come. Just wanted to share my joy with fellow Mercedes owners. Happy driving!

500 CLS
By the way, I also found it necessary to improve the sound insulation in my 560 Cab. We added insulation to the front doors, trunk, and wheel arches. Even though it's a cabriolet, the difference in noise reduction with the top-up has been quite noticeable while driving. I wanted to share a video the installers sent me to give you an idea of the work done (apologies because it is in Spanish). sound insulation
While the S-Class does come with decent sound insulation from the factory, it is definitely not the best and can be improved upon. And for those of you looking for an even higher level of sound quality, the Burmester 15-speaker system can certainly be upgraded as well.

2019 s-class coupe 2018 GLE 350 SUV2017 S-class cabriolet
Momene,
Ditto for me.
I plan to keep both the cab and coupe until the wheels fall off.
As you say "no other car interests me".
For comparison I also have a GLE 350 but I will upgrade to a GLS 580 next year.
My point is that I don't have the attachment to the GLE as I do to the cab and coupe.
The cab and coupe are wonderful road cars...

2016 S550 Coupe (C217)
It would be nice to get a new engine for free on MB for a 2018+ car... They honestly need to recall prior C217's to address the sensor seals at the front of the engine. They go bad and oil leaks into your ECU and eventually will destroy your engine harness. There's this guy on YouTube that posted a video about it. (he's no expert, but I trust the extent of his rant). BENZMAN has a 2015 s550 Coupe that just experienced sensor seals going bad. go search him out to see for yourself. Good luck.
