Here she is, my new Black Beauty

Hey all, based from the original post, where I told you that I took over my parents car, I have finally got it, and cleaned it up. I was off on the year from the original post, it is a 1997 Mercedes S420. 45,000 miles, and rock solid. When my parents brought the car over the weekend, the exterior was plenty dirty. Had a nice coating of dust and dirt. My parents live right near Atlantic City, so there was little layer of salt air on the car. I promptly washed and two coat waxed it just to protect it until I can get more nitty gritty with it to do a complete detail. The inside just needed some basic wipe down, my parents kept it very clean inside. I noticed that the "0" in the S420 was loose, and it gave me an excuse to debadge it =) . I will discuss how much of a pain in **** that is in another post. Anyway, here are some pictures.

My other Mercedes in the background

My pain the **** debadge, still working on (my son the reflection) all that dust is wax dust.

Congratulations...

Very low mileage on that car.

You sure its a 97 though?

97 had the updated lights (rear)...as well as one color scheme, not the two tone black and gray ! ?

Nice car. that looks like a 96 to me. That car will last you for a long while.

I have a 96, and I had the body trim painted to match the body. Only cost a few hundreds but it will give your car a whole new different look.

I've got the same one. Looks like a 96.

Great car. Use it in good health.

What's the deal with debadging?

Nice! I agree with silver500, painting the bottom half would really sharpen up the look of the car.

Unless the climate controls are different on the inside there is no reason for it to be a 1995 and not a 1996, if it's registered as a 97 then it may have sat on the lot for a while and only been registered when sold.

Well, I know of one way to tell. In 1996, MB updated its cars to the driver-adaptive 5SP transmission. If your car has a 4SP, then it is 1995. If it has a 5SP, then it is at least a 1996.

debadging isnt a big deal/ i debadged my s320. put some updated tail lights on it, have the botton gray panneling sprayed black and youres set. and later on if you have/saved up more money, get it some sharp looking wheels, but none of that ghetto rappa' ****.

My car came debadged I think it looks cleaner, some say it's to cover up for a smaller engine size but I've even seen debadged S500's and 600's.

1995 is the last year for W140 to have rear parking guides (little rods that comes out from the ear fender). 1996 ~ 1999 W140s do not have those.

Also, the rear receiver for the remote is filled for 1996 and on, because they switched to a IR/RF type of remote, rather than IR remote of earlier W140s.
