Are xenon lights effective if installed on 96 S500 regular headlights?

I'm thinking of installing xenon lamps on my 1996 S500; the prob is that my headlights are the regular Mercedes headlights with no projector (not Euros style).

so, if i install xenons, will they be clear & bright on the road? will they cause glare or blind other drivers?

Did Mercedes or any other OEM make headlights with projectors especially for W140? (and i don't mean the cheap Made in Taiwan headlights).

Xenons lamps = Unnecessary glare

Personally I see better while using regular lamps, the yellow light reflects perfectly on the road increasing visibility rate way more than xenon lamps, only downside they don't look cool.

If you like to add xenon lamps to your car I suggest installing them in the front fog lights since you can turn them on/off like you desire while still having regular low beam.

installing xenons in the location of your fog lights is stupid. fog lights are there for a reason to help you see through fog with the yellow/amber light output in low visability

while it is true, yellow allows you to see more in dense fog situations, in normal driving situations xenons produce light that is brighter illumating at 4300 kelvin.

i put xenons in my 98 s420 with the regular halogen projector lens. there is a slight bit of glare for oncoming traffic but you can always adjust the headlight aim down a bit for the driver's side so you don't blind them.

light output is fantastic and much brighter than the oem setup in the s-class, and even in my ml500, and my 335i.

i used a set of audi s4 ballasts i got from a wreck for $100, and bought a pair of 4300k bulbs for $100.

I don't use xenon fog lights to see thru the fog, I use it for show. Where I live we barely have fog, maybe 1 or 2 times a year maybe it is my eyes but I see better with regular lights installed in low beams in normal driving situations.

Read JOZEF question carefully to understand why I suggested not using xenons in his low beam, his headlight are not projector type, if he installed xenons it will produce awful glare that will annoy other drivers, I don't know about others but I don't like to annoy other drivers with my xenons.

300E a couple 1994 w124wagon E320 Wagon/,1971MGB Track/Rally, MG Midget Autocross ,2000 E320 wagon.
Read

www.danielsternlighting.com white paper on the reasons it is not a good idea.
The oem reflector and lenses are not designed for the beam pattern of the HID's any more than the fog light buckets were not designed for them.
Blue light travels shorter distance anyway, thus the projectors. Why don't you build a set with projector lenses?Like the 210 guys do.
Or if you have a sedan with the H7 and H1 combo ,polish the outer lenses and install sterns 65watt H7 rally bulbs in the H7 spot and 55W Ultra High Efficacy Plus 50 in the H1 sockets.

Getting ready to do a diy article on using them in a W210 wagon That is going to a Midwest forum member. The W210 takes 4 H7's so he ought to have plenty of light.
I see that you a bit further away
Why do these guys with the blue lights keep blinding me?

youseffex,
The 2 of you are only 800Km away from each other. You ought to have a get together like we have stateside

your statement about not annoying drivers doesn't make any sense. you have put xenons into the location of your high beams. they are naturally aimed higher up so you can see further down the road. and if you put it into the high beam area, there is not adjustments that can be made.

at least if he/she puts them in the low beam area there are horiztonal and verticial screws he/she can adjust.

so again, your idea is stupid and doesn't make sense.

The only stupidity here is naturally coming from you buddy.

Repeat after me:

Fog lights and High beams are not the same thing.

Now go buy a new brain then go to sleep.

the later S500's had HID as an option, maybe you could try to source a pair of those lights from somewhere? OEM HID's ftw!

Here is my old 96 S420, halogen headlamps with HID H7 kit 6000K. I had a pair of OEM xenons installed and the light output, cut-off, and glare was the same as the halogens with the kit (although zedstlye and zorroamg may argue different) but i dont have the pics saved on photobucket. Ill have to look for them on my old laptop.
