New to the site...my 420

I just signed today. I own a black/black '98 420. Looking fwd to speaking with you all! There are some minor issues I need some answers to. Problem is, with all these posts posted on here, I'm afraid my inquiry will be lost in the shuffle, but then again, I'm new, so what do I know?! Attached is my picture. Cheers everyone!

Well, I guess I should start off by asking how to reply to individuals on here, or is that not possible? Can you only reply in the thread and then individuals have to figure out who you are replying to??

^^Greatings Autohaus, I love you guys! I purchase from you all the time! Thank you for the compliment on my car.

^^And greatings to you as well Sinner, appreciate the open ear!!

official question 1.
Can I buy oem xenon headlight assemblies for my '98 w140 and plug and play, or are there mods that have to be done? I would rather buy the (L&R) assemblies than settle for a kit. The kits turn out nice from what I've seen, but I'm a stock kinda guy. I was over the xenons a while ago, but passed a '97 w140 500(black/black) last wkend and fell in love w his stock xenons so I would love the same! Mine are incredibly dim. What do you think?

question 2.
My side mirrors haven't folded back for years now and I am not sure why. The mirrors move and then get stuck, only to hear constant clicking with the mirror motor humming while you push the mirror lever from inside the car. My driver's side (assembly & housing) is brand new, while the passenger side has a used replacement assembly. What gives??

question 3.
My doors are not locking for some reason, by key or manually via push of the button inside the vehicle. Took it to the dealer and after getting it back, it worked for a couple hours, then stopped locking again do to a blown fuse that keeps happening again and again. What is causing the fuse to get blown?? Could it be a pump issue, the pump underneath the back seat?? I have to take the car back to the dealer Fri so they can have the entire day to tackle this. I thought maybe I could go back with some possible enlightened info.

Question 4.

Time for new tail lights. Should I buy the assembly, or just replace the lenses?? My tail lights work fine, but after looking at replacements, I noticed you can buy just the lenses just like you can with the headlights. Should I just replace the lenses if my original ones (L&R) assembly tail lights are working fine? Sounds like a stupid question, but just want to be clear. I'm looking at ULO btw.

Ok, some of these like the locking doors aren't minor issues, but Thanks so muCh in advance for any input!

You can click on the name to send a private message, or you can click on the "quote" that is located at the bottom right of the post. That will highlight the text that you're responding to. Other than that just post in the thread and we will figure it out

Thank you Oldsinner111, much appreciated! What do you make of the xenon headlights? Any experience in this area. There's been much talk about the 4 or 5 pin plug in. I'm trying to figure out if oem xenon headlights would be a direct plug and play into my '98 420. I am not sure if I have a 4 or 5 pin plug in though, or if that even matters if indeed it ends up being plug and play. Thanks again for your input!

Thank you! Yes, the aftermarket lights with the converter I'm aware of. I would like to avoid any extra items if at all possible, so I don't mind paying extra for the oem. But, if I do go aftermarket, I know the converter isn't all that big a deal to handle. I've just never been fond of where the converter lays anywhere inside the assembly area. It's something I'll def think about when weighing my options. Right now I have mixed feelings which way I'll go

I am looking at a set of new wheels to replace the ones you see in the pic of my 420. The wheels I am looking at are alloys 20x10 all around. Here are the specs for the wheels:

diameter= 20
width= 10
offset= 42
hub bore= 66.5

I just bought a set of 18 inch wheels 2 months ago with a 35ET and tried to put 18X9.5 in the front and was told they would stick out, so I went the staggered fitment route and now have 18x8.5 front and 18x9.5 rear(pictured).

The wheel specs just above, I am told to get spacers to get the 42 down to a 35. That is no problem if that is all I have to do, but what I am confused about is the width. Discount Tire(who I trust a great deal) has told me they are too wide for the front. But the seller has told me to contact the forums for answers, as he has said he has seen w140s with wheel specs of 20x10.5 front and 20x12 rear.

Any knowledge in this area to help me with my decision would be awesome.
Thanks in advance.

Nice car, esp. like the wheels. (See my mirror issue at:https://mbworld.org/forums/s-class-w...ng-mirror.html )

If you choose to buy mirrors on ebay there are some aftermarket ones made for our cars but somewhat cheaper quality (they were white ones). Just don't make the mistake of buying the OEM mirrors with the smooth housing cover (that are multi-piece) as the electrical connectors in the door are different (changed mid-way through 1995 to the newer/cheaper style). There is ample info. on the wire insulation falling off and shorting out/smoking within the mirrors. OEM mirrors for our cars are still available, but this new style is less available on ebay so far. Prices: Old Style (which won't fit your car) OEM $1393. New Style (which will fit your car) OEM $882 This is part number 210-810-11-16. You could buy both OEM mirrors, or find a whole parts car for 1600 bucks! Even better!

Thank you so much for your reply! Sorry for the late response, but I did not get an alert through e.mail saying I had a response. I am only just now logging in to get an answer maybe you can help me with??

What do you make of rolling fenders for our w140s? What are the pros and cons, are you familiar with this process? I'm trying to figure out a ballpark cost, who to go to to do it, and if there is any turning back if I change my mind. The winters here in the midwest are nasty so I would have to go back to putting my 16inches on or maybe even 18, but would want to know if rolling my fenders would effect that. Thank you in advance for any input.
