Sorry to jump in but I suffer from the same thing. Im pin pointing it to either the throttlebody or the MAF at this point. My question hasn't been answered either. But If I find any more info ill report back

There is such alot that can cause a limp mode. Ask me, i know lol, stil lgot it. Anyway, low battery voltage, brake light switch, speed sensor, faulty accelerator pedal sensor or a bad transmission module. In my case it was a faulty transmission module, cause by oil going into the module. Your best bet is to have is scanned with a proper tool. Or else you going to be chasing your tail

Interior, under the right side dashboard, reached from under the dash. Sorry I can’t be more specific, but I wasn’t there when they did the switch. I was shown the old part, which is a small, fairly flat, plastic box. It is riveted closed. My mechanic popped the rivets and cleaned the internals of the part, re-installed it, and ran it for some time without going into limp mode. Then he replaced the part with a new one; just under $100, I think, but don’t hold me to it. Labor to diagnose was the bigger cost, but not crazy. That was in March of 2017. A couple of days later, we set off on an 11,000 mile cross country trip without being sure if it was fixed. I got more confident the longer I drove it. Never went into limp mode again.
BTW, before the repair, the car started and ran perfectly otherwise. My throttle body and harness had evidently been replaced before I bought it, and MB dealer I paid $200 for a diagnosis wanted to replace my throttle body (again, I guess) without guaranteeing it would solve my problem. Before the repair, it got to where I could get it to go into limp mode by accelerating hard, but it would also do it without slamming on the pedal. It got to where I could put the car in neutral, shut it off, and restart it all in the time it took my speed to drop from 70 to 50mph.

I have had no transmission work nor have I changed the fluid. The only other unexpected repair was to replace a clogged catalytic converter when I first got the car.

I have a 95 S420 with ASR as well. I start the car and the light is off. As soon as I accelerate, it jerks and then ASR light comes on. I haven't checked the CEL but is this how others ASR is as well?
