MERCEDES S-CLASS vs LEXUS LS430
Out of curiosity, how does a car demand respect? Does it have a sign saying "Respect me?" Or is it the fact that the vehicle is so expensive that it should be respected? Does that mean if I'm rich I walk around demanding respect? And shouldn't respect be freely given instead of demanded?
Sorry to be nitpicking, but I take issue with the way people use the word "respect" these days. I fully appreciate and enjoy MB vehicles; I'm sure we agree that MBs are fine automobiles. But respect them? Nah. Not me.

.......
By the way, recently I got a ride in an '03 Town Car; didn't get to drive it but I have to say, at least from the backseat, the car handled much much better than previous models. Shall we compare that to MBs as well?

[B]FC Corp, what color is your S600? I'm also trading in the '02 for the '03. Should have it in January.
It's Tectite Grey. Still not used to the color though it is easy to keep clean. The 03 will be the Designo Mocha Black. It would be great if they came with the panoramic roof as the E Class does.
Your's?
Black is not a color ... it's a hobby.
It is Obsidian Black, impossible to keep the exterior clean. The 2003 will be Brilliant Silver.
The Best of Mercedes & AMG
Curious, does the Obsidian Black show swirls as bad as the regular black does? I had actually ordered Ob Black (02) but they screwed it up and ordered the t grey...

Obviously you have a hard-on for me, don't know why... Stop whining about what I post and please move on. Thank you.

I think AlBoston is the best at the hobby, he will spend 10 hours every two weeks detailing his black ML.
I have driven every Lexus ever made and must say that as good as they are they cannot compete with an S class with regarding to handling and smoothness.
But within less than a week, my car has been in the shop for 2 days for a list of problems, nothing major, just anoying electrical problems.
My Lexus was hardly ever in the shop for anything other than regular maintanence.
So I do think Japan has Germany beat when it comes to electronics, but Germany has Japan beat when it comes to the car itself: engine, tranny, suspension, etc.
And I always feel that the more gadgets and conveniences offered, the more that can go wrong.
Just my two bits.
As a former LS400 owner who recently traded it in for an new S430, I must say that I am thoroughly impressed by the drive quality of a Benz over a Lexus.

As far as which I prefer the most LS430 or S430...? The only thing that would make me chose the S430 is 48,000 miles of free maintenance. But, as you can tell by my signature, I'll probably end up having them both!
LS430: awkward front end, ugly rear end, below average exterior, beautiful interior, great engine, great value, great reliability, great fit and finish
S430: beautiful styling, inside and out, mercedes name, fine performance and handling, very good fit and finish and quality
overall, i think the lexus has the edge in reliability and value, but the benz has the clear edge in the looks department and in name recognition
this is coming from an owner of a 2000 s430 and a 99 lexus gs; i have driven the newer ls many times and my cousin has one (with rims); a very nice car, but i think the benz has the edge because of its looks... but if money is the most important thing, then go with the lex because its a better value, but then why are you in this class if you dont have the money?
my two cents on other comparisons:
lex is v. benc c v. bmw 3: bmw, benz, lex... but a benz 4 door with rims can beat any bmw 4 door; the coupe is better for bmw; lex is ****ty on the inside, too cheap on the outside
lex gs v. benz e v. bmw 5: benz, lex, bmw; new benz e is beautiful, they finally re-did interior and made it up to new s standards; bmw needs serious updates, and the lex is still strong; i love the 540 wagon though
lex ls v. benz s v. bmw 7: benz, lex, bmw: benz is the best looking by far, beautiful inside, too; lex is the best value, ugly on the outside, best reliability; bmw looks like **** on the inside, ugly sad depressed front end, back and rims are nice, but overall package is not very good
) a floaty ride, in the words of the person i talked to "it feels like its about to fall off its wheels" and while I agree with Lexus fans that the interior is very comfortable, I have no idea why they say its more comfortable than the S, The S class has a much bigger, and more comfortable and interior. The LS430 has cheap toyota like styling, no road presence... it might as well be invisible. Not only do I prefer the S class over the LS430, I prefer the BMW 745 and the E500 over the LS as well
LS430 Front Headroom : 39.6
S-Class Front Headroom: 37.6
LS430 Front Legroom : 44.0
S-Class Front Legroom: 41.3
Yes, the length of the S-Class is longer, but the actual inside demensions of the Lexus are close if not bigger in most cases. Please do your homework before postiong messages that are not true.
And to be honest, I'll take the reliability of a Lexus anyday. I dunno about you guys, but there's not much prestige involved in being stranded at the side of a roadway in your unreliable S-Class while everything fro Corolla's to Kia's zip by you on the freeway!
Just look at Consumer Reports and J.D. Powers. For gosh sakes, J.D. Powers is sickened by the lack of reliability in the S and M classes. Consumer reports says that the S-Class predicted reliability based on the last 13 years of data for S-Class is :
....drum role please.....VERY POOR. Over 15% of drivers will experience MAJOR hardware failures and likely multiple minor problems.
I don;t make the statistics...I just do my homework and don't spend my hard-earned money to get other people to "look at me" in traffic.
