Post your tire brand & sizes and how you like them.....
I did a search and didn't find any thread that addressed this recently.
I thought it would be helpful to see what "shoes" everyone is wearing and how they like them.
I'm leaning towards Michelin Pilot Sport A/S in 245/45/18 front and 265/40/18 rear.
I put the car on the lift the other day to inspect the clearance in the rear wheel well. I can tell you it's very tight in there with the ABC hose and clamp probably around 1" away from the tire. It crushed my hopes of putting on 295/35/18s.
Anyone running 275/40/18's? How do they work with the ABC and traction control?

If anyone knows what suspension changes happened between 2001 and 2006, I'd love to know. Barring that, you can't beat this setup for the W220 chassis.

Lots of the stuff on the Tire Rack's forum is still pretty good; and the contact info on the Tire Rack website will get you some excellent responses tailored for you. Plus there are calculators, screening questions, test track results on different tires. Really good background.

I thought it would be a good idea to see what the 220 boys were doing and place it here so if someone else did a search they would have some good info.

In addition, the Tire Rack guys do a great job answering specific vehicle questions related to how the owner wants to drive, and the conditions the car will be driven in. It's really a quality source (no, I have no association with them at all; I have just read their stuff!)
No problem posting here - I just thought you'd get more over there.

I did 245/35 x 20 Kumho's on all 4 corners so I could rotate. With 4500 +- miles they are about what I expected. The S Class Airmatic is very forgiving to low profile tires. Tread noise is highly dependent on air pressure. Car drives like it's on rails when pushed as compared to the stock 17's....but admittedly it's not even close to the E39 BMW's with sport pack that I've owned. Great ride is still there though.

LetsJet,
I just ordered the 960's from TireRack and I'm having them put on tomrrow. I'll see how they do and report back, but they were by far the best all-around tire on Tire Rack's site.
Thanks,
Craig

I bought a set of Goodyear Assurance's for the sled as I thought this winter was going to be brutal.
They are great for driving a non-4matic in the snow.

I got Federal...something on my car.
I'm running a small rolling diameter at the moment. 235/35-19 fronts and 265/30-19 rears. Ride is pretty horrible for a S-class. I'm feeling all the imperfections of the road.

I just ordered Toyo T1-Rs 245/45/18 fronts and 275/40/18 rears. I lucked into a free 275mm rear so I just went ahead and bought three more. Previously had Michelin Pilot Sports in the same sizes. Destroyed them. Almost got the Nitto 555 Extremes. I could not find Bridgestone Potenza S03s in 275mm ANYWHERE, and I adored them on my M5s. I just can't spend an extra $400 on Michelins these days.

I have Dunlop SP9000s, 245/40/18 front and 275/35/18 rear. They cost $300 each but HOLY***** these tires are loud on the highway. they have this droning "WAWAWAWAWAA" noise. tread lasts a long time though.

2003 S600....Naked
I run the Falken 452's on my S600. 245/40/19 Front and 275/35/19 Rear. No clearance issues on my 5zigen wheels. The offset on your set of wheels is the most critical part of running a wide rear wheel. My 5zigens are 38 offset which is about as far out as you would want. However, Renntech runs up to a 52mm rear offset with 295's on it, which is further in than mine. Hope this helps.

I'm going to look into options in this size. there are a lot of 245 35 options but it gets real tricky when you move up to 245 40 for some reason.
