Just installed bluetooth handsfree system
Just installed the Motorola HF850 Bluetooth Handsfree system to my car. Took me about two hours, most of the time was to organize wire & make the whole thing look neat.
Due to low market demand (people would just go w/ the plug in or ear-piece, or cost of labor to install, or new car already have them), I was able to get a NEW Motorola system for $45 (eBay !!). The MSRP of the set was around $250 !!. The system offer very clear sound, no echo nor engine noise whatsoever, and the voice activation is excellent.
I hook up the phone with the mute wire on the stereo system, so when receive or make call, the stereo is muted. The only thing I don't have access to is to browse the phone book via the command monitor, but I don't care about it at all, since most of the time, I use the voice activation for making phone call.
The system automatically pair with my phone when I turn on the ignition key. Even better, if I turn off the key while I'm in middle of the call, the system keep staying on until the call is finished.
I mount the mic near the mirror (next to the SOS light), the phone control near the ash-tray, the speaker and the handsfree processor unit at the passenger footwell. Everything look blend in.
Here's the kicker: my brother paid $250 for the bluetooth pad for his S550, and the whole thing is a POS: lot of echo, and the sound suck, not to mention the system can only work with certain phone.
Highly recommend the Motorola HF850: excellent sound, convenient, look nice, work w/ any bluetooth phone, and cheap !! .

That's sweet. How long did the install take? Any tips or tricks to help me with my install?
I havent ordered mine yet. I was considering the IHF1000 but your description of the clear sound is making me lean towards this model.
Do you know if there is a cradel that I can mount that will charge my phone while in the car too.....a cradal compatable with this system?

The mute wire is the yellow one, near the main power one on the bottom plug.

Do not use the flat-head screw driver. Dealer sell a plastic piece to pull the wood or run wire under the A-pillar. But it's $45, too much. I cut a piece of pexiglass, shave and sand all the edge, and it works just as good.
I would recommend the HF1000, that's the best one. There's no cradle for the phone. But the phone mostly stay in my pocket or door pocket

Install Bluetooth on 2000 S430
Hi Zam,
I got my 2000 S430 about a year and looking for the bluetooth device.
I'm very excited to find this thread. But I need alittle bit more help.
Does the HF850/1000 work on the 2000 S430? Does the instruction come with the device?
Do you have the instruction that I can use?
Thanks,
Eav
