Hi Gondon,
Check out this site http://www.ukspeedtraps.co.uk/index.htm
I know it is a UK site, but there is a lot of information and tests on different laser/radar detector/jamming devices which are used in both the US and UK.

Isn't Virginia a state with laws against radar detectors and laser jammers?

May god have mercy on your soul and your S if you jam the wrong State Troopers laser gun.

I think eventually, it's up to you to read reviews (website, car magazines), and decide what's best. Couple years ago, CarAndDriver did some extensive research & comparison on radar detector, search around and you'll find it.

I went through the same dilemma couple years back when looking for a radar detector for my car. Back then, for less than $500, the best/popular three were BelSti (not sure name), Passport 8500, and the V1. I ended up buying all three, since they all offer 30 days return policy. The V1 can only be purchased directly from source, and the other two from retailer stores.

Well, cut it short, I should have listened to the CarAndDrivers review & save myself all the test works, once you use the V1, it's hard to accept anything else. The V1 is head and shoulder above all else.

One catch though, the V1 manual does not show how to disable X-band, which often cause lot of false alarm. The other two have clear instruction how how to program their radar. But the V1 website have instruction how to disable the X-band (nobody use it nowaday anyway, except door sensor ). And once you disable the X-band, the V1 is really a God-sent radar detector.

Avoid the gimmick like GPS based, since they're simply junk. Also, all passive laser jammers are crap, and all active ones are illegal.

I have the V1 in all my cars, and it helped to get me out of trouble plenty of time

iv done my research for a while and i know that laser jammers are legal in about 47 states there are few states that have laws against them.. check www.guysoflidar.com they have it listed on there site which states alow them and which ones dont.

I don't recall the exact terminology of the "dots" around the rear view mirror, but I do know there are only a couple of "clean openings" on the front windshield for antenna type items (such as gps, radar, sat radio, etc.) to be able to view through. It's in your owners manual, under "Windshield", IIRC.

detectors are worthless against laser guns..

Don't waste your money for a top of the range radar detector..Buy a jammer instead. In my opinion ,if you respect the "game" rules you are on the safe side with your jammers. ALWAYS respond quickly after having an "encounter" alert, by braking down to legal speed ,and IMMEDIATELY switch off the jammers allowing the officer to take the speed reading he wants. I have laser jammers installed on my cars for the last 5 years and NEVER had a problem with the police, but I keep the above mentioned "rules".
With laser detectors , the given warning is wothless as the time you are beeing alerted ,you 're already catched by the laser gun. (A laser gun is "instant-on" and measures your speed in less than a second (!) - time not enough even to lift your foot off the accelerator pedal !)
I use the BLINDER jammers on my S-Class, but if you prefer to feel safer you can go for the TARGET LT450 which incorporates a garage door opener module ! When checked by a police officer you can always claim the unit to be your garage door responder !!

I tohught the V1 was both.

I thought the radar detector detects police cars, So if the police officer is acutally standing outside with his gun, I will be alerted that his car is there, So i can slow down. Doesnt the V1 infact dectect all those bands that a police car emits.

So what are officers using now days Laser Guns or What?? So what do all those radar detectros dectct, if they dont detect the guns.

Im getting confused.

Ive used the V1 forever and I wont use anything else.. It catches everything and its advanced logic filter does a good job of keeping the false signals from driving you out of your mind..

When you get tagged by laser there is no radar detector going to help you.. The problem is as everyone says by the time it picks it up you've already been tagged.. But if it picks up the car that was tagged 200 ft ahead of you that was doing 65mph you have time to slam on the brakes before he tags you..

Plus you can always update the V1 to the latest technology.. Even if the V1 is 10 years old..

V1 FTMFW!!

Jammer won't do squash if police use KA gun, or when you're blasting 90 mph on interstate, and policie with a mobile radar unit going on other direction, lock up on your car. Which is how most people often get speeding ticket. Let's not forget, by nature of design, all mobile tracking radar (often mount on cruiser dash board) use KA band, and majority of police handheld radar gun are KA as well, most upgrade to instant on now. Laser gun are often used in case of Mr Cop hiding behind the bush and aim at your car, since it requires clear of sight, and the unit have to be stationed.

Not to mention is a federal offense to use active device to jam law enforcement devices. Radar is legal in 48 states.

V1 is universally praise for its efficiency.
