Popping noise when turning lock-to-lock at standstill?

I have noticed over the past few months that the S makes a pretty loud "pop" when say, turning the wheel nearly all the way left or right while the car is sitting still. I doesn't do it every time, but certainly enough to be annoying because it's loud enough for people to hear around the car. I checked out underneath and nothing looks obvious. Anyone ever run into this issue?

Lower control arm. My car did it when I turned the wheel to the right, and had to replace the left lower control arm. Its normally opposite from the way your turn. You didn't hear it on the lift because there was no stress from the weight of the car.

(Not sure why your hose is jumping, might be something else)

I just went to the dealer and as I pulled up a mechanic was walking by, heard the clunk and squealing noise. He told me right away that it was the balljoint and strut arm(lower arm). I just ordered the parts on ebay for $250 both sides vs MB's $600.

thanks Kadafone ... please keep us updated ... i'm having a similar sound, but it's not loud and pronounced as some of the other posters ... but irritating nonetheless ...

Well I finished the work today and WOW what a difference in braking, steering, and smoothness on highways. One problem is that a aftermarket ball joint is nearly if not impossible to put in a OEM arm. So I had to go to the dealer and buy a OEM ball joint. If your going to do the work yourself I would buy all parts from ebay dealer(Deutsche Parts) except for ball joints.
