Radar detector wiring to roof light

Does anyone have a good write up on integrating radar detector to the roof light pod on S class? I have 2003 S430 and trying to wire my V1 to the center light console on the roof.
I have seen many with wiring to cigarette lighter or fuse box, but nothing to the light console.
Thanks.

I saw one writeup that I didn't bookmark where a contributor had tried wiring to the lighting console just behind the windshield and it caused him all kinds of problems. I don't remember exactly why.

Happen to remember any details on that thread? I see no reason why it wouldn't work unless said person tapped into the wrong wires.

You can gain access to a ground and a power wire through that top mount. Or if you are truly skilled and blessed with small fingers, you can run an in-line fuse from the fuse box on either side. Just run the power wire all the way up the pillar and tuck it under the headliner. This would be my best recommendation.

I would like to wire through the top center console with SOS switch. Anyone happen to know the color of wire to tap in for power?

That's not a safe location. I would recommend wiring it to the Lights over head or something with a constant power. The SOS switch is connected to more than just a power switch and it is not constant imo.

The SOS switch triggers the Tele-Aid system, in the same way that an airbag deployment or activation of emergency seatbelt tensioners would. Of course if you're not subscribed to Tele-Aid, it would do you no good in that regard; but ALi is correct. It's not just a light. Leave it alone.

Sorry, maybe I wasn't clear, but I was saying the whole console with SOS and light. I would like to tap into the light wiring.
Thanks.

I'm not too sure on how to actually DROP it down. But once you do it's easy work as long as you are familiar with splicing. I would recommend using an In-line Tap Splice to wire the power and ground for the V1. I would also recommend you use an In-line Fuse just in case the wire kit doesn't have one. You would just need to tap into the Lights Constant power source(you'll need to use a power tester for this step and find out which wire).

It's not as hard as I am making it seem, so please do not be discouraged to do it. It's real easy, I just don't know how to remove the SOS section lol.

Thank you. It helps to know that it is not too hard to tackle. Now I need to find out how to drop that section to access the wiring....

I wired mine to the cigarette lighter - the cord is just long enough to reach and no worries about shorting something important. Took me about 10 minutes to hide the wire and connect.

go to best buy its 29.99 to hard wire it directly to ur ignition. that way u dont have to deal with manually turning it on and off. thats wat i did on my s500, and i havent had any problem with it.

They have LITTLE experience with cars other than what is taught in house or by some crash course. Are you sure you want to trust your Mercedes with them? If so...... post pic's lol

i tapped mine through constant power. I couldn't find a switched line using a volt meter. All readings were well below 10 volts which isn't enough to power V1. If anyone has the correct wire to use, please let me know so I can rewire it.

Wiring it up top I thought was bad, since the windshield has a infrared coating on it? I have my 8500 mounted down low on the open spot in the coating
