'03 S500 back wheels rubbing!!!

This is my first post, and i need some good assistance if at all possible. i just put 20's on my s-class. tires are 245-35-zr20 (nitto 555). but the back wheels rub only on bumps that are similar to small ditches....

to explain.... like the larger speed bumps in the road, you know how some of them begin a little lower after time, before the hump??? well it makes my back wheels rub.. also riding on the highway, those little 'ditches' make my wheels rub. back only though!! normal bumps i can take fine.. its weird. it rubs like the top front of my sidewall. any help would be GREATLY APPRECIATED. i am not sure what i can do.

take em off. or drive with your car raised all the time and enjoy premature airmatic failure. at highway speeds (over 80mph) the car lowers itself so watch out

I'd start by rolling the fender lips, or at the least you need to see where it is rubbing and address that area directly.

You must be running wrong off set for sure , as you tires are only 245 /35 /20 . With the correct off set you could go as much as 285/30/20 on rears w/out rubbing .

for some reason i figured that, its not bad but those little 'ditches' are irritating. hmmmm, wondering about just rolling the fenders. or getting another set of rims.

Look at rolling your fenders if at all possible first, that may give you the clearance you need, and you can call it a day.

Than you aren't talking to the right shops. Try tuner or body shops, they should be readily familiar with it. I have friends on the coast that may be willing to help out.

Thanks for sending me an email lol... a PM would have been sufficient.

Like I said, I have 20x10.5 wheels in the rear with absolutely no rubbing... bumps or not, lowered or not, people in the back or not.

The wheels are made for the W220 and the offset is correct.. where did you get your wheels and what is the offset on them?

^^^^+1 What is the width and offset of the wheel? Without this information it's hard to help you.
Some general things that can fix rubbing problems.
1. Rolling fenders
2. Pulling fenders
3. Stretching tires
4. Adding camber

You are running the wrong offset I have an 11inch rear with a stretched 285/30/20 and I don't rub unless I have 3 people in the back and hit a speed bump really fast.

Try looking for a speed shop to roll your finders. You are right most people will not know what your talking about. If you see those "ricer" guys (fart mufflers, stickers, and altezza lights) ask them where to find a performance shop, you need to find race shop or garage. They will know exactly what to do and make sure they use the actual machine that goes on the hub, and make sure they heat the paint so it doesn't crack.

P.S. IF you change the camber it is almost impossible to get it back right, but judging by your tire width you have the wrong offset. This can be changed two ways. 1. Buy the right offset, 2. You can do what I did and take it to a machine shop and have them machine it down.(when you do this, make sure you take it to someone who knows what they are doing, not only will you need to clear the caliper, but you need to keep the wheel in balance.

If you are running nitto 555's and rub you are most def. running wheel with a low offset.. if you have a 9.5 wheel with no lip, you should be at around ET44ish. The nitto would actually help because it is more rounded..

Instead of trying to mod your car, how about the simple solution which is to put on the correct wheel.

You didn;t post any info about your wheels except they are 20's. We all run 20's with no issues. My car is dropped also. I have had 19's rub on my car..

Offset is everything my man...
