quick question regarding bluetooth and gateway 500

Hey guys.... I have 2004 W220 with OEM bluetooth installed and looking into getting the Gateway 500. I know Dension also make Bluetooth for this unit. If I do get the Gateway 500 installed will I lose my OEM bluetooth functions???

No, he will not.

He needs simply to get the Gateway 500 unit without the Dension BTA1500 Bluetooth add-on. He does not need the Dension Bluetooth.

His existing OE Bluetooth will work fine with the iPod capability provided by the Gateway 500.

If he wants to use the Dension BTA 1500 unit, he will have to give up his OE Bluetooth; perhaps that is what you were considering. But there is no need to do that, and the BTA1500 is not as easy to use as the OE Bluetooth.

Skylaw, he asked.... if you purchased the Dension WITH Bluetooth, If he purchases that HE WILL loose any bluetooth that is integrated into the car. HOWEVER, if he purchases the Dension without bluetooth, he will NOT lose any built in bluetooth. But that is not what he asked....

I read his question the way tusabes did - and gave a complete answer, with which your second post agrees.

That's great news Skylaw.

Thank you so much guys. Sorry I couldn't give a quick response. I'm only on this forum during breakfast and lunch hour. I was looking into keeping my OE Bluetooth. The car came with it. I was aware that Gateway 500 also make Bluetooth for their unit. I personally didn't want to invest extra money into getting the Dension Bluetooth if it wasn't necessary. I would do that only if I lose my OE Bluetooth function. Thank you guys so much. Didn't mean to confuse everyone.

Hi all. Can someone with the Gateway 500 please say where the module is located and if it's easy enough to install. I've read it requires no cabling into the boot to eventually plug in by the factory CDC. I have MBU-1000 for phone so require no BT module, but it seems the Dension 500 is the only option on my 2004 S320 to plug my iPhone 4 into. Any pointers or links would be appreciated! =)

Welcome to the forum, Mike.

See the writeup at http://www.mbca.org/forum/how-integr...e-mb-ipod-kit; there is also one at https://mbworld.org/forums/audio-ele...mentation.html but the first link is more recent and less "evolutionary," so it may be easier to follow.

Once it's installed see https://mbworld.org/forums/audio-ele...ml#post2471051 to get started.

My iPhone 4 works fine as a music player when connected to the GW 500. Phone calls are handled by the car's BT system.

In addition, there are other bluetooth options besides the Gateway 500. We have the iTronic and mObridge units that are highly reviewed and very nice systems.

Thanks for the speedy responses. Cartronics -- I have MBU-1000 for phone so require no BT module -- did you mean your offerings can integrate my iPhone into the S Class in the same manner as the Gateway? If so I'd be interested! I've no interest in any more bluetooth at this time. Skylaw - thanks. I had previously searched for the guide you've linked to but not seen that one! I'll have a think on a DIY job or perhaps letting someone who's done it before do it for me!

Cheers,

-Mike

Yes, we have a full integration kit for the 04 S Class. For full iPod functionality and Pandora control (as well as an additional Aux port) - the iTronic Audio would do the trick from us.
