Stealing Gas

Don't know if this is the right area but I'll put it here.

My parents drive a 2004 or 2005 s500 not sure which year but I don't think that matters. My mom usually takes it to work and parks it outside. Well, today somebody decided to try to steal the gas from the Benz but I think my mom caught them in mid act and they just booked it. Now my dad is very cautious and thinks they may have put some contaminants and such in there which is plausible. I haven't checked it out in person to see if there are any substances around the cap but I called the benz dealership and what they told me was that I needed to:
1. change oil
2. a injector service
3. change oil filter
4. replace the whole gas tank

Now I know the dealership is there to make money, and replacing the whole gas tank sounds straight up BS. I was under the impression that a flush would do at MOST. I just wanted some opinion if what there telling me is actually BS or not. I'm pretty sure they were just trying to steal gas with the price hike and all (shady asses) but you never know.

the 05 s500 has a locked filler flap. There should be no way for them to have even gotten to the gas cap.

unless she forgot to lock the car, with a female I wouldn't be surprised was there any marks from prying the flap open? missing some details here and maybe some pics

LOL.

I doubt they would try and put random crap in the gas, especially if they were trying to siphon it. Oil change shouldn't be necessary. Just use techron fuel injector cleaner ( which are MB spec approved), and fill up on 91.

Looks like things are getting shady over there, eh?

Ummm I have a 2001 S500. My fuel door locks when I lock the car. I thought that was standard.

um, yeah, no.

the fuel pump has a little sock filter that would get clogged very quickly and you would have fuel pressure issues.

any sand that got past the fuel pump would end up in the fuel filter.

Any particles small enough to get past the fuel filter would likely not cause any harm to the motor.

you would however, probably have a kaput fuel pump (overheated) and you'd definitely need a new fuel filter. It would be a big pain but would most likely not result in engine damage.

Well, you don't get off to a very good start with that username.

Your English is so crude, I'm still lost on what you're going on about. You've seen a whole engine go due to sand in the gas tank?? You're telling me that sand made it past both fuel filters, and then made it through the micron size opening in the tip of the injector?

I think someone was pulling your leg, champ.
