s320 cdi ipad mini instal
few words about instal:
i used oryginal command cover with fibre glass as back. carbon fibre vinyl on top.
factory command removed
system connected via bluetooth radio - kenwood KDC-BT8044U
radio installed in armrest ;-)
so everything you need : radio, navi, movies, internet, parrot bt hands free.
it is possible to connect up to 4 bt devices to this radio.
so all nice and sweet.
next step :
amg orange - plasti dip - chassis
gun metal gray - plasti dip - alloys, and chrome work

Can you just unbolt and push the comand unit behind the dash , then attach a cassette adapter to the iPad mini headphone jack ?
That way the comand will still be there right behind the ipad, and you can control volume through steering wheel and keep all factory command parts

The only thing you are loosing by removing command unit are:
1. Mercedes navi - Navi from ipad much more better Than mercedes one.
2. Oryginal car phone in armrest ( not a big lost)- bt parrot from radio
3. Steering wheel control - basicly you can use ipad for volume adjustment as well as track sellection. Depend on radio you are using as New head unit you can get steering control module for after facelift w220 i did not found for preface yet.
4. CD changer - mp3 , spotify"................. Insted

Sounds interesting, but how did you interface the Kenwood system to your MB car?
You say you extended the wiring from the COMAND unit to your center armrest, then installed the Kenwood there.
But isn't the audio carried over D2B (fiber) lines? Or are you outside North America and possibly have a car without fiber optic lines?
I believed that the only way to install an iPad was the way suggested earlier (tape adapter + moving COMAND back a bit). Can't see how you got the Kenwood installed....
