IS the S65 really worth it or Does the Brabrus SV12 do it just the same?

Question IS the S65 really worth it or Does the Brabrus SV12 do it just the same?

I have been reading on the CL65, no review of the S65 just yet but i was wondering why would you want to dish out 195K for the 65 when you can get a 600 for 120 and just go for brabus kit with better numbers. Not to mention it wont go costing you 70K for the kit.

CL65 Link

The 65 Engine puts out 612 horses and 738 foot pounds, 0-60 4.1

BRABUS SV 12 Biturbo increased capacity engine, 640 hp / 471 kW, 1,026 Nm (or 758 foot pounds) from 1.750 rpm, 310 km/h (electronically limited)

SV12

what i would do (if i owned an '03 and up S600) is get $6500 worth of software upgrades form renntech.

625 HP!!!

745 lb. ft. !!!

http://renntechmercedes.com/splash/c...s/s55s600.html

a relative bargain compared to either the 65 or Brabus. just talk to Treynor, whose car was in C&D magazine.

Ok thats an even better idea, though i wonder about the tranny since they upgrade it in both the S65 and Brabus to handel the power. It seems 117 for an S600 + 6500 = 123,500 is much better than the 190 region for the S65, that is if it even comes to the US.

The S600 engine is right on the limit with 580bhp. Just by re-writing the ECU, you're gonna have reliability problems.

The Brabus SV12 cars are just the S600 models with bigger brakes, bigger alloys, bigger engine and a stronger crankshaft. They are not completely built from the ground up and tested like AMG does with all of its cars.

So if you want a powerful S-class car, my choice would be the S65 AMG, no doubt.

actually its the same engine from from the maybach with a very modest detuned rating of 493 hp. in the maybach its 550, which is well within its limits. so 70 hp more than that is still well within its capabilities, you just need to pay closer attention to maintenence and always fill it with high octane. besides its not the engine id be worried about its the tranny.

Whoa, I didn't know the 65's were that expensive.
I think the 600's would be enough power for me

When will we see a 7.4 W220? W140 7.4's were wonderous cars with naturally aspirated power, the M120 is definately the most refined engine MB has ever built. I would love to see a W220 with a 7.4L M120 engine with two turbos strapped to it......700bhp would be just the beginning...

I contacted this company in ny,(BRI?) and they spoke of building some extreme M120 W220... that would definately compete with Brabus/renntech/carlsson..no? I wonder what would be the cost of such an item.

2004 S 600
Did the Renntech on my S600 (04). Still under full warranty. The transmission can handle power just fine.....note the current AMG and 600 didn't get new 7 speed.

Went to a dragstrip...finally....3.4 second 0-60 was my best and 11.7 in 1/4 was my lowest run. Wasn't using drag radials.

IMO, the current S600 w/ Renntech upgrade is the best value. This baby pulls some serious G's
