2006 Mercedes E350 Sport
slow as hell for what it is. i test drove an 01 and was thourghly unimpressed. BLAND- silver exterior, silver carpet, silver headliner, silver seats, silver, silver, silver!!!! Handled ok- like an old mans car. Too slow for what it is- only had 35k miles and lost more then 50% depreciation- YUCK! The engine did sound nice- but i think all german v12's do?

Specs are 362HP 391TQ I think. It's been a while since I've looked at the numbers. 0-60 is anywhere between 5.4-5.9 secs depending on what magazine you read.
Anyway, I agree it is a little underpowered for my tastes, but it's my mom's car and she's happy with it. Depends on how much power the driver will need/want.
Other than that, we've had a couple engine problems. I don't know how it will last in the long run after the warranty if expired. I am thinking about trading our 01 600 in for an 04 or 05? But, since the new model is coming out, I might just wait.
99bmw740il - They come in different color combinations you know. =)

The S600s preceding the year model 2003 had 362 or 389 horsepower (they published both figures) with 391 lb-feet @ 4,250 rpm, 0-60mph in 5.8 seconds, kerb weight of 4,488 lb

Keep in mind that Mercedes was pushing out 389 or 362 HP on all 600's from '92 on to '02. Until the latter part of that span, they took the cake on HP especially in 1992. It is all relative, I guess. Even back in 1986 until 1991(2) the 560SE, SEL, SL's had 232 HP while all other cars were pushing out somewhere between 90-120ish. In my mind M-B has always been at the top of the game in considering power output. With exception of the modern 240, 320, 430 engines, and all pre '03 AMG engines.

Gatsby is right...
The W140? S600 came with the 389HP and over 400TQ V12s. When the W220 came out, they lowered the output of the engines, but due to the substantial weight savings, the performance still increased significantly, mainly the S500. The W220 01-02 S600 had the 362HP V12s. Obvisously the new 03-04 ones are ridiculously powerful. =D

I actually drive a `92 600SEL. It has 402HP and 428lb-ft torque. That`s quite a bit of power. To me the power output for the 2001-2002 S600 is too small for its engine size. In my opinion, Mercedes has never been at the top considering power output. I just like the S600 for some reason. The 600SEL still can`t beat it in a 0-60 competition. Wonder whyÉ

I should proof read what I type. No, Mercedes has not always been at the top of the game power output wise. But, lately they have been at the top with their revamped 5.5 liter motors. Maybach, SLR, SL65, 55, and the respective S & CL. We own the same car just about, your car 13 years my cars elder. I always love 140 bodied sedans. My father has a 1999 CL600-Seems more solid than my S. I imagine that goes the same for your S600.
