Unhappy After sitting on one place for a week this happens.

Hey guys,
I have a real problem with my S500. I had it over year and a half but I barely use my baby. I may have put about 1500 miles for that year and a half of ownership. I start the car once a week but every time I do that car will start on one crank but nothing else works. No power mirrors, signal lights, radio, climate control,moon-roof,windows, even the hydraulics(VISIT WORK SHOP). BUT everything works after starting the car for about 15 mins. All i have to do is wait for 15 minutes turn off the car and turn it back on and WHOA LA. Can you guys please help me why is this happening? IS it my ECU? or My Alternator? or the battery? or something els?

PLEASE HELP.

How old is your battery?

It will likely still test good , especially after your alternator charges it up during the drive to pep boys

Your problem is that voltage is too low when sitting parked , causing errors until you drive the car a bit and it gets charged up.

Btw the Mercedes battery is worth the extra cost . Otherwise the Bosch from pep boys is ok but not as good as the mb battery

The mercedes oem batttery is a deep cycle agm battery. It is very worth the cost. If you want call mercedes road side assitance and they will deliver and install a free battery for only the cost of the battery and a few bucks of tip. Otherwise any battery that matches your CCA will be fine. Since your s class is pretty much a driving group of computers, voltage under the normal will cause those small computers to act up. Shooting out random errors have makes no sense.

Try not to cycle the battery, if you are going to leave the car there for an extended period of time, you should disconnect the battery. Self discharge on a lead acid is extremely low, so you dont need to charge it for years at a time.

And I have some beach front property in Pittsburgh to sell you my friend.

Tell that to my tractor battery and boat battery that I remove every season and store in my house, to only have to charge them again before use in the spring.

Note: NEVER leave a lead acid battery on the floor for ANY period of time.

I think he meant agm batteries don't discharge like lead acid

For a tractor I would assume you aren't using deep cycle batteries (what Mercedes uses in the S class) Traditional lead acid batteries self discharge faster than deep cycle batteries. But theres too many factors to consider in determining shelf life; also cold really destroys these lead acid batteries so you'll need a float charger.

Those battery testers put a load on the battery and get the results from there so it doesn't really matter if you have been driving the car or not when you get it tested.

The problem is that many batteries which test good on a tester but are still too weak for a w220

My 4.3L v8 only requires 300 amps to crank and start, not very well, but starts. The starter motor is a 1.3KW motor. So at 12v, it should only use 110 Amps. Any battery that provides 500 amps at 32F should be fine. BTW all my numbers are at 80 degrees F.

My battery is getting near the end of its life, on start with a full battery, the voltage dips to 9.5 volts.
