trunk hard to close??
I apologize, I originally posted this is the AMG w220 forum by accident... my original post is as follows, hopefully someone can help out.
Yes I am convinced that my soft close feature is not working, the driver door doesn't work either, the passenger front door does in fact work. My question is why is it so darn hard to close the trunk like I rally need to man handle it down and put all my weight down just to physically close the trunk?? Once I do get it latched the silver handle pops out for a few seconds then goes back in. Honestly I really don't care about the soft close feature I just want to be able to close the trunk like a normal car. This is a 2004 s500 4matic if it helps out. I have searched other threads already and they all point to the soft close issue, and in my case I have to choose my battles with this car as I cant fix everything that doesn't work on a 14 year old vehicle.

Sell the car .. W220 is the worst MB of all times in terms of maintenance. Believe me, you'll be much happier with W221/W212/W218/W213/W222 or whatever you can afford from E-Class up!

Well that's encouraging! I have already had the car for a while and really have few problems as some may have. That being said its not a option to just sell it and get something else

The issue here is that there will always be something with the W220. It was built this way in the worst possible Daimler era.
There's a reason why they are so bloody cheap.
Regarding your trunk, check this out:

Doesn't the soft close feature use a completely different system (air/pneumatic) than the Automated Trunk Assist (hydraulics)?
I have the pneumatic system with my soft close trunk/doors and have read a lot about the leaks in the different components of the soft close system.
If you have a leak somewhere you may have burned out your pneumatic pump.
However.....I don't know why it is so difficult for you to close the trunk. You might have the Automated Trunk Assist that is malfunctioning . I'm not familiar with that system so I don't know if it would cause resistance during a manual closing???
Good Luck!

Have you checked your parameters on the instrument cluster to make sure your trunk limiter is off? What happens when you try closing the trunk via the button on the driver's door?

First question - Do you have the hydraulically opened/closed trunk lid? Or, do you have the manually opened/closed trunk lid? The hydraulic unit has a lift cylinder near the right front corner of the lid, the manual has a helper-spring lying on each side of the lid, anchored near the rear.
If you have the manual lid, the effort needed is adjusted by turning the springs to increase or decrease the pressure applied by the springs. You might also try lubricating all of the moving joints in the hinges.
