I had the same problem............... local MB dealer wanted to charge me $600. for a new blower motor, and another $300. to install it.
Showed me how the blower was "seized up"..........etc. I did not believe the BS.
Got home, opened the blower housing under the hood, put a DROP of engine oil on the top of the blower shaft, where there was a minor bit of salt dust corrosion. Half a hour later wiped off the oil drop, and everything has worked fine since

My blower motor is working fine. it's just not cold and the A/C 'on' button won't turn on. The red light is on and won't go off. I'm unsure how to diagnose with in car settings. Think it may be time to pay the man. Too hot to mess around with long repair.

when the red light is on that means the Freon level is too low and compressor is off to protect it from burning out.

You can try just recharging it with a can of Freon and it may get the Freon pressure high enough to turn the compressor back on . But sometimes it requires computer reset

Since the A/C system indicated low refrigerant, it MUST have additional refrigerant (I believe R-134 for your care), UT, you need to determine if it is 'just a little low' or "near/completely empty.' You can determine which by depressing the 'valve core' in whichever charging port is accessible. Be careful and protect you hands and eyes. Any liquid refrigerant spraying out will instantly freeze skin and eye tissue. NOT GOOD.

'Just a little low' can probably be 'fixed' by adding some more that has a 'leak detecting dye' and 'seal conditioner' in it. The R-134 refrigerant leaked out somewhere---most likely past the compressor shaft seal. The 'leak detecting dye glows brightly when under ultraviolet light.
If the system is near or completely empty, further diagnosis to locate and repair the LEAK is necessary. Time for a good A/C tech to diagnose and repair and recharge the system.

Simply adding refrigerant will not normally clear the error code, and the compressor will not start operating until the code is cleared.

It is both illegal and dangerous to release refrigerants into the atmosphere by just depressing a refrigerant valve core, and I do not believe that depressing a valve core will give you any idea about how much refrigerant the system contains - unless it is virtually empty.

Air conditioning techs STRONGLY urge you to NOT put any refrigerant containing any type of sealant into your system.

You can purchase R-134a in a can that is equipped with a gauge, and this can give you a rough idea about how much refrigerant the system contains, but is highly unlikely that using one will get you to anything very close to the correct amount. It is not difficult to service your own system, but you will need a set of gauges, eye protection, and some study so you know what you are doing...

You would check air compressor.

Thanks. I did a freon dye test and the compressor is leaking. So now i need to find a quality OEM part and identify the other parts that i need to replace while it's open. Do I need evaporator, accumulator, orifice/expansion tube, etc.

When mine failed, I bought an original compressor from my local pull-a-part for $35 plus a $5 core charge. Was still working perfectly when a deer totalled the car several years later. I replaced only compressor, a full charge of R-134a, and a partial charge of POE oil. I might mention that the system was open to the air only a very few moments until I plugged the hoses. It did take more than just a few moments to change the compressor...

Taking the compressor off in the pull-a-part yard was a valuable learning experience. It also helped that I have a vacuum pump and gauge set.

$35 sounds like a steal. What years would work with my 2004? I have a friend with a vac and gauges.

How do you plug the hoses? thinking they make screw on caps maybe.

I believe that all W220 compressors are the same.

TBH, I don't really remember now what I used to plug the hoses - I just automatically plug AC hoses. I have a box full of different plugs and caps...
