A Question for Our Friends from Hong Kong

Can someone from Hong Kong answer this for me ?

With not much else to do this evening, I visited the Hong Kong Mercedes Benz website, and used the configurator to price up a new w221 S500. The HKD prices looked fairly USD as long as you drop off the last digit, ex: base price car HKD 839,000, I figure could be rougly US $83,900. Anyway, all was fine until I got to FRT (tax). Am I reading this wrong, or is your tax about 80%? The tax is approx. $77,000 US ?????

Car Configurator

accessories such as your panoramic roof is 100% tax.
ie. AMG styling kit with exhaust is HKD52,000. After tax, HKD14,000.

our car is HKD1,489,000 standard S500L. We added the rear parking camera and something else can't remember. So grand price I'm thinking low HKD1,500k.

The only way to get out of this is to add the accessories after 6months of owning the car. So items such as AMG kit can be added, but items that require installation (COMMAND, PANO roof) at the factory can't escape the 100% tax.

I saw in Time a few days ago that the US pricing for the S500 (or is it the S550 in US?) will be $115,000, is that true?

We are waiting for the 3rd shipment. We chose to forgo the first two in case there are problems with the new S-Class, hoping that it will be rectified for the 3rd shipment :P

That means around May/June 06. Zung Fu also took in our old S-CLass (grey import) at a good price!
