MP3 woes

Unfortunately I have a nasty feeling MB may not offer us one given the other media capabilities they have built in as standard. An example is flash memory cards which are now commonly and inexpensively available in 4Gb capacity, which can certainly store a lot of music in MP3 format. The designers would be thinking why the heck we don't go that route instead.

Personally, I see the PCMCIA slot as a way to pacify non-iPod owners, although a simple 3.5mm aux in jack would have been better. iPod integration is expanding through the MB line as new models replace older ones. It was a sorely missed feature in the W220 and I was disappointed to find out that MB was just going to wait to implement the kit in the W221 rather than retrofitting fro the W220. Given the iPod's market share in the portable MP3 player market and the fact that many other car companies are offering such a solution, it would be ridiculous for MB to roll out a new flagship sedan that didn't have iPod integration as an option.

the songs from iTunes are DRM protected - they will not play except on your computer, and on the iPod. and they will not play in Windows Media Player either. there is currently no (legal) way to make them do so, although the French are trying to pass a law to change that.
however, songs you made from your own music CDs and then transfer to your iPod, and now want to copy to a memory card, should be playable.
the most likely reason for your problems (given that the song sometimes play) is i guess that the format is not correct. you can use Windows media player (and i guess iTunes - sorry, don't use it myself) to re-rip them to a compatible format... but it'll take time!
There was a program called JHYMN that would unlock these songs for you directly without doing the above, but it has been nroken since iTunes was upgraded to version 6. There was another similar program called Playfair, but I think it was removed from the site it was posted on. It may be available elsewhere.
Hope this helps.

I had previously enquired at the local MB dealer and they were clueless. Now this is just in time for my new car due to arrive mid April (delay due to my ordering some extra kit). Thanks again.
