'07 S65 US builds start June onwards

Rcvd call from my CA dealer today, informing me that their first S65 build is in June, which I'm taking.

No pricing yet, but S65 (unlike S600 no-options appch) has numerous options, incl Parktronic, Distronic Plus, PanorRoof, 4-place seating, rear seats vent/power, etc etc....

Will be fun Summ/Fall w/new S65, 997TT Tip and 599 as my diverse daily driver trio

Anyone care to explain why the S65 is going the 'options' approach?

Don't know what Merc's pricing logic will be.

But let's not forget Merc prob only will sell some ?600/yr S/SL/CL65 in US (perhaps 200 of the 600 will be cust-ordered cars sold at/near MSRP and the other 400 will be 65s sitting on dealer lots/on ebay desperately looking for a home w/a cust looking for best discounted price on a car w/o awful color/options choices)....it's a tough car to sell in any greater volume, as the 65s have enormous deprec, down twd 55/63 lvl once one drives it off dealer lot......65's are most analogous to F's 612/575 or P's GT2....they appeal to a very small segment of jaded buyers who are aware of the deprec involved, but still want the cars new and ordered to their specs....and the buyers of used 65/F 12's/GT2s tend to be a different demographic, far more price-conscious and will closely compare used 65 vs 55, 612/575 vs 430/360, GT2 vs Turbo, etc.....

I guess the 2007 SL65 will approach $225,000 fully loaded then! Whew.....this is getting crazy now!

I've noticed that some dealers are still trying to get full MSRP for 2006 S65's that have been hanging around for months and months now! On the other hand......some are offering $35,000 off MSRP! Big swing there!

I doubt Mercedes will push the S65 past 190-200K. I think there is some type of mixup here because if the S600 has everything standard why wouldn't the S65? It is afterall the top of the line Benz sedan.

I still believe the S65 will be competitive price wise with the FS.

It's perplexing....'07 SL65 base price is now on mbusa.com; doesn't seem much higher vs '06...but there are still options (w/o prices listed).

What's laughable is Merc shipped many '06 65s to dealers w/o perfunctory options like Parktronic.....seemingly trivial, but essential, options on a fast-depreciating, nearly $200K car that most dealers have struggled to sell at list, even in jaded mkts like NYC/SF......

I think that would be really dumb move if the make the good stuff options when it is standard on the much less expensive S600. I bet they won't make the same mistake in the 07' SL65 shipments.

I have a "netstar sheet" for a 2007 S65 right here in front of me. The car is schedualled for June production. There are no prices yet.......on anything!

As far as standard features are concerned, just to list a few......

Phone Sys with VCS
Rear side window blinds
Active ventilated seats/front
Tire pressure monitoring
Sirius satellite radio
Night view assist
Cornering fog lamps
Electronic trunk closer
Keyless go

Now, the options listed on this particular car are as follows.......

Park asst. (included with Distronic plus)
Distronic plus
Active ventilated seats/rear
Panorama sunroof
Driving dynamic front seats

**So, as we can see, there is a strange mix of options and standard equipment! Interesting, nevertheless! Although there are no prices listed anywhere, this car is on eBay for a "buy it now" price of 200 K. I don't know if there is a dealer mark up since it is one of the first ones around.

Listen........I contacted them and they faxed me the "netstar sheet" on this car and it clearly states about the "cornering fog lamps" as standard equipment!

Here is the link: http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/2007-...QQcmdZViewItem
