Grille got scratched

I was out looking around my car today and I discovered a new scratch that extends from about halfway up my grille and then continues rearward along the hood for about 18". I'm willing to live with the scratch on the paint (clearcoat) but I really don't think I'm going to be able to put up with the scratch on the grille. Do I have to order that from the MB shop? Or does anyone know of a source to get one. I can put it on myself.
Done it before on another Benz a few years ago. Wasn't my car so I don't know how he got it. I put it on for him. Took about 2 hours or so (can't remember exactly).

I found a site that has it. Only $277 for a new grille.

Does DistronicPlus make DIY grille removal/install more complicated or not advisable?

Distronic Plus should not make it different, just that the grille is different. The radar is attached at the car body, not the hood/grille, the grille just has a specific plastic "opening" for the radar signal.

Thanks for all of the kind responses , however, I went out today to investigate the situation and , thank God, it was not scratches afterall.

Just accidentally, as I was washing my car, I thought I would see if I could buff out any of this mess and lo and behold the scratch was a hardened material that apparently initially slung upon my grille and then the airstream of driving must have spread a needle-sized bead of it along the hood. It looked EXACTLY like a cat claw scratch deep into the chrome and paint!!!! When I took my thumbnail and picked at it, it began to disappear and so I worked at it for only 5 minutes with some strong cleaner and wax and now it is as good as new.

BTW, may I suggest using Honda Wax and Polisher found in motorcycle shops for quick wax jobs. It sprays on , wipes off quickly and leaves a beautiful shine on your paint. It doesn't leave that residue of wax on the paint that seems to take half of a day to remove

Hey trumpet, pleased to hear your outcome was ideal.....much prefer easily removed dirt/muck vs an actual scratch...

Good to here that! Whew!

As for wax and other detailing supplies, I would suggest NOT using anything but the best for your S-Class. I ONLY use products like P21S, Pinnacle, and Wolfgang. If you want to go one step lower in price but keep a decent quality, then Poor Boys World, Chemical Guys and DP are good too.

I got a thread going here with the owner of detailedimage.com.

I also like www.autogeek.net - greatest site for everything under the sun when it comes to babying your Benz.

Yep. After detailing my past 13 Benzes I only use P21S, and One Grand wax.

It's like buying house paint. All the effort/money is in the labor. Why cheap out on materials?

I'll look into those. It's really time for a good wax job.

You'll love P21S, and/or One Grand wax. You can wax your entire car, with either, in about 30 minutes (if you have a good clean surface to begin with). Removal is a snap, with NO residue. They are pure waxes only, NOT cleaners.

P.S. P21S is mainly intended for "garage queens". One Grand last longer and is best for "daily drivers". IMHO.

Have used Pinnacle Souvereign with good success. Good shine. Medium durability. No experience with Wolfgang however.

Buy all my stuff from Larry Reynolds at Car Care Specialties http://www.carcareonline.com/
