Just got a new S550 09

Hello Guys,

I just leased a new S550 with P3 Black on Black, AMG package.

I have a quick question. I purchased a PCMCIA adapter and a 16GB CF card.

It plays great but when I restart the car, it takes about 10 seconds for the car to resume playing of the .mp3.
Are you guys having the same issues?
Is it because my CF card is cheap? Is it because my PCMCA adapter is cheap?

What are you guys using for CF card and PCMCIA adapter?

Thanks.

10 sec. sounds about right....I have roughly 12GB of music on my CF card. When I first got my '07 it would take anywhere from 5 sec. to 30min. to start and never at the place where it left off last only at beginning of playlist. Not until they FINALLY updated my command software was it back to normal.

Hey, congratulations! I am also curious as to what the payment terms were, as I'm also in the market for the S550 lease at the moment. Please PM me if you don't feel comfortable disclosing them on the forums. Thanks!

I hardly play MP3 just after starting the car (mainly listen to the FM radio) and I have not tried this but does it take 10 seconds every time you start the car or only if the card was first time inserted? I was expecting the car to store and maintain the info once it has decoded the memory card contents but is it actually starting from scratch at every switch on?

For comparison, how long would it take to have the iPod titles listed with the iPod interface (assuming similar amount of music)? Or for a DVD, I don't remember how long it takes to play a DVD with MP3 music, even a slow Compact Flash card should be faster than a DVD drive, or is it?

My 09 takes about 10-15 seconds to organize the 14GB worth of music on my 16GB card. I tried other cards, with the same results. Funny, tho. My 09 Honda Pilot, with it's USB connection to a thumb drive, comes up immediately.

Every time you start your car or just the first time?

Thanks.

I know you tried different cards but did you try a different PCMCIA adapter?
My adapter says support up to 4 GB even though I am using 16GB.

I'll try another adapter and report back.

Was not aware there were adapters that only had support up to 4 GB. Is this a CF adapter, or SDHC?

It is a CF adapter and even though it says up to 4GB still recognizes my 16GB CF card.

This has been my problem as well - The stupid iPod integration is a joke (so the $450 + $400 for the ipod was wasted) - The PCMCIA is a very old technology - the new express cards are much better but the S550 does not do the faster expresscard - I simply do not understand the logic behind having to use the PCMCIA adapter - they should have simply provided the slots for the sdhc or compact flash cards - Another sad discovery on my 09-S550 now with only 478 miles !!

A bit nit picky?? ;-)

The ipod kit is basically a mandatory option from MB. It is indeed a waste of money.

But the CF/PCMCIA card music solution has brought my entire music library into my car; and works pretty well.
The PCMCIA technolgy allows for the use of CF I+II, SD, SDHC, xD, micro drives, Smart Media, and MS cards. Pretty convenient.

Not sure the COMMAND system will take advantage of the 32 bit adapter, but I'm going to find out.

Amazon has them for $25
