Verizon Wireless and 2007 S550
Having problems finding current Verizon Wireless cells compatible with a 2007 S550. My local MB dealer is useless, as well as the local VW corporate stores. Have not been able to find anything online that references current VW cell phones.
Anyone out there using Verizon Wireless in a 2007 W221? If so, what cell are you using?
Will the model # (age?) of the installed BT puck influence the number and variety of cell phones compatible with the telematics in my S550?

Yes the compatibility can be different depending on the software revision on the module. If the dealer has the proper tool they can upgrade the software in the bluetooth adapter.

Do we know for sure whether a dealer can update the bluetooth module software? I had a Blackberry Storm (Verizon), and my adapter worked fine. I just upgraded to the Storm2, and while the adapter says it's paired, the screen says "No Telephone". A call to one dealer said they can't update the software.
I'd much rather update the software than pay over $400 for a new adapter.

Yes I know they can because we have the tool. As far as the storm2 I don't know if the software revision will include that one IIRC the storm1 didn't come out too long ago so I doubt the software for the new one is available. If you need any addition help shoot me a pm.

Do you mean the tool # W203 589 07 63 00? This must be a very new device. I wonder if you know if the setup allows the Euro BT SAP V1 adapters being updated with V2 SW?

I don't know the part# off hand but I saw it and it's a suitcase looking thing with a contact plate in it with some wiring to connect to the star. I don't know about the euro versions, but I have 6-7-87-5839 and they updated it. I just got an iphone last night and it paired fine and downloaded the phone book.

I called two dealers AND Wireless4MB, and they all said the module couldn't be flashed.
My module may have died, since we tried it in another car, with another phone. Wouldn't pair.
I just bought a used one on eBay. Newer part and SW version. Hopefully that'll do it.

Well it's fairly new on dome dealers probably don't want to pay for the tool wireless4mb just distributes these for MB they do not have any way of updating them. You could have given them the part# to the tool DB listed

Just got the used replacement BT module... and it works!
My service guy thinks my old module went bad since the lights wouldn't flast rapidly when I'd press the button, and it never gave me "MB PHONESYSTEM" to pair up with. New one did.

The factory installed cradle on the 2007 S550, and presumably others as well, requires the Motorola V710 phone with MB internal electronics and Verizon as the service provider. A Motorola V710 phone is available from Verizon but without the MB internal electronics and will not work with the MB factory installed cradle. For all other phones and service providers, MB offers a blue tooth dongle (puck) available from MB dealers. As a general matter, the factory installed Motorola V710 phone in the factory installed cradle is reportedly more reliable and less susceptible to dropped calls and fade outs.
