How many of you W221 owners own a GL-Class too?
Just curious how do you compare these two cars in terms of build quality, reliability, ride etc.

I have both. Not comparable. one is a lux limo and the other is a truck. Differences are about similar from our GL to my kid's 2011 jetta SE........really.
I still like the GL and it beats most others in it's class

Have both ... can't really compare the two, as jprescott posted. I really like the GL, but it's more of a people mover/truck compared to luxury sedan ...

I see. I was thinking about letting the S go and switching to the GL. But it's a hard decision, I like the S a lot 
The best would be keeping both of course which is not impossible but then, when you travel half a year and your car park stays at home you realize it's quite expensive, isn't it

Traded a GL on an S in 2008. Had one of the very first GL450 (launch edition)
S was far superior in luxury/ride quality. However, the GL is as close to the S an SUV can get.
The only thing that would keep me away from the GL now is the old tech interface that will be revised soon with an all new model with a command controller

My GL550 is a great truck, but it is a truck. Do not think that it is an S-Class version of a truck, as it isn't. Many features and technical advancements are not in the GL. Moving to a GL from an S will require a lot of rationale to make it work. Good luck!
