Slight vibration @ speed even after wheel balance?

I've never had to balance my rims/tires 3 times and vibration still don't go away. I did a road force balance the last time as well. The tire shop drove the car with me and he confirms the vibration, so I'm not overly sensitive.

He did a series of test and says the car itself seems fine, not the drive shaft, doesn't feel like warp brakes or anything, the only thing he can say is it's possibly a bad tire but he couldn't find any bubbles or anything on the tires.

Does anyone have an S550 that does this even with stock rims? I don't have stock rims to test on. My father has an S500, I wonder if I can swap rims with him to test. My warranty is going to be out in a month so I'd like to iron all this wrinkle out.

well the road force balance would tell you if there was an issue with the tire or the rim... at least our hunter machine does.

I can almost guarantee you have a bad tire. It doesn't take much to create the kind of vibration you describe. My wifes car had the same issue shortly after new tires were installed. After several re-balances, the tire company replaced the tires and problem solved. There is a specific test they should be able to perform to determine "runout".

possibly a bent wheel worn tires or your tranny mounts are bad. Have someone check this out for you.

bad tranny mount? that would be something. BUt usually bad tranny mount can be felt at low speed as well, anything under 50 is extremely smooth, we did some hard deceleration to check this and it seems ok.

Hi, I sort of have this problem. I may be overly sensitive to this kind of issue but one of our W221 rides like a velvet and the other doesn't so I have a direct benchmark. It can be that one has 17" and the other 18". But still, both have new wheels + brand new tires, properly balanced.
What can it be? I checked the suspension just to make sure and maybe there is something that could eventually be replaced sometimes soon *see pic*. But still, at 50 thousand Kms it is nothing for a W221 and that wouldn't be the case, would it?
I did not bring it to our MB dealer because I consider their knowledge of the top of the range models - W221/W216 poor and they always have to "ask Germany".

Looks like you're getting vibration at the steering wheel?

Mine feels more like it's coming from the rears.

Yes, it's more from the front.

You should check the drivetrain if it's coming from the rears.

yah I emailed my SA to bring the car in to fix the squeaky seats (again) I'm going to have him look at the tranny and engine mounts but I'm almost sure it isn't the engine mount cause reving in neutral is still smooth.

It's probably a bent rim. Our OEM wheel did that for a while too, and it got rebalanced twice at Laurel MB

Then I decided to take it to one of my friends shop, and he showed me that there is slight bend in the front right rim when he was balancing, and that slight bends are very hard to notice, if the tech isnt watching the wheel through the whole rotation period.

Anyway, He ended up fixing it for me, fairly cheap something like $75? But he is a close friend I think a typical reshape on a wheel is 150-200?

Regardless my money is on a slight bend, its so easy to get on a small profiles, even a small pothole...And looking at your wheels, which are very nice btw, I 'm guessing you have a thin profile.

Either way GL!

Did you find your vibration problem?

My car has been with the dealer for almost a week, the last I heard is it could be some flange (which I called bull) then said the aftermarket lug nuts stripped something (also bull). I have a feeling my car is going to be there for awhile. They are trying to blame all sorts of things but has not pin point to anything beside the fact that i've proved that it isn't my rims/tires because it did the same thing when they put their own set of rims on. If they can fix the vibration problem on this car, my ownership experience of this car would be more pleasant.

Alright guys so I balanced the wheels 3 times to make sure it isn't them and the result is I will buy new tires.
I had Continental SportContact 3 255/45 R18 103 Y XL FR but it seems they are the problem. Other than that, they are grippy, quiet and comfortable. Will try different brand if it helps. Will post update.

Sorry, I'm not sure. If you can direct me to the online parts database I will tell you 100%.

Tires

I had the same problem and after spending $90 to get the tires balanced and rotated, the dealership was only able to balance three. They told me I would need to replace one of the tires. The bad tire was rotated to the right rear so the wheel doesn't vibrate as much but the car still rides like crap.
