I've checked with a couple of dealerships in the Houston area about the telematics update, even mentioned star bulleting P-B-82.85/512h to them. One claimed that they've had problems applying the latest telematics software to 2007's. Said the most recent one they did caused the rear-view camera to stop working, and they still had not been able to get it fixed after a couple of months. Striking that dealer off my list -- if they've messed up someone else's car, don't want them touching mine.
Another dealership said signing up for mbrace gets an update to Telematics that would provide those features. But an MB customer care person denied that, saying the mbrace Telematics update was very limited in functionality.
Anyone else heard either of these things?

Yes, that is what I said. The telematics update can screw up your A/C. They can fix it by updating the system again using the correct codes.
So if you have the telematics update done, check your A/C before you leave the dealership.

The dealer techs can't follow the installation instructions. There are specific instructions in the procedure where the technician MUST answer a couple of questions which indicate that the vehicle is a 2007 with rear view camera. A different type of camera was used starting with 2008. Take a look at the bulletin and you will see these unique instructions.

Initially when I was trying to do the same thing you're trying to do, the dealership was clueless. Then I mentioned to them what the results of the update would allow and the service manager mentioned that the satellite radio update would update the Telamatic (aka Command) as well. It cost $50.00 I believe and I've had DVD in park with the park brake, birds eye, real-time traffic, etc. since then. Also no errors whatsoever. If you do a search on the forum, you will find a extensive thread on this subject.
Regards,
Tony

I called the last dealership in my area and finally the shop foreman there knew exactly what i was talking about, so it's booked in for June 12th, fingers cossed.

I'll personally confirm it can disrupt the A-C. Had software update Dec. '10 on '07 4matic. Update smooth as silk. Didn't need A-C 'till spring '11. Kaput. No warr., two indies said need new compressor and the whole shebang. $800 later and still not working, relented and went to dealer. Compressor not "talking" to the Command. $200 later and recoding, A-C worked; still is. Knowing the fluke would have saved me $1,000 and lotsa time.
Also, there's an updated nav disc out. Some board people been floating it around. Updates roads etc., not the Command.
