DVD Video Update
Has anyone in the Vancouver, BC, Canada area been able to update their software on their 07 S550 DVD video to work, i've phoned every dealership out here and they all say it's not possible.
If anyone has the part numbers for the software update can you post it so i can give it to the dealership out here.

I'm not in Canada, but I'm sure you will need to get your Command unit's software updated. I know personally if you get your sat radio updated, the update will also update your Command unit software allowing you to view DVDs while in park with your park brake engaged.

Do a search.. there have been many threads about the Telematic Update.. Some dealers just dont want to deal with it I think. It has to be done with the Star Diag. system. Takes up to 3 hours to do. It will add the DVD Video option and Birds eye view to the Nav. Nice update.. You may mention the command screen has been blanking out or somthing so they do the upgrade..

TDwayne - what is the sat radio update you are referring to?

OK. I was aware of the Telematics update for birds-eye nav view and dvd play-in-park. TDwayne mentioned a sat radio update also. Hadn't heard of that one.
I've checked with a couple of dealerships in the Houston area about the telematics update, even mentioned star bulleting P-B-82.85/512h to them. One claimed that they've had problems applying the latest telematics software to 2007's. Said the most recent one they did caused the rear-view camera to stop working, and they still had not been able to get it fixed after a couple of months. Striking that dealer off my list -- if they've messed up someone else's car, don't want them touching mine.
Another dealership said signing up for mbrace gets an update to Telematics that would provide those features. But an MB customer care person denied that, saying the mbrace Telematics update was very limited in functionality.
Anyone else heard either of these things?

Ask to speak to the shop foreman if you are not already doing so. Spent a frustrating 30 minutes with my SA trying to convince her to update my Telematics, 2 minutes with foreman and it was scheduled.

Be advised if you update the telematics, you may lose your A/C.
Yes, that is what I said. The telematics update can screw up your A/C. They can fix it by updating the system again using the correct codes.
So if you have the telematics update done, check your A/C before you leave the dealership.

The dealer techs can't follow the installation instructions. There are specific instructions in the procedure where the technician MUST answer a couple of questions which indicate that the vehicle is a 2007 with rear view camera. A different type of camera was used starting with 2008. Take a look at the bulletin and you will see these unique instructions.

Initially when I was trying to do the same thing you're trying to do, the dealership was clueless. Then I mentioned to them what the results of the update would allow and the service manager mentioned that the satellite radio update would update the Telamatic (aka Command) as well. It cost $50.00 I believe and I've had DVD in park with the park brake, birds eye, real-time traffic, etc. since then. Also no errors whatsoever. If you do a search on the forum, you will find a extensive thread on this subject.
Regards,
Tony

I just got back from dealership and they could'nt do the upgrade, they said they don't have the software program.
I called the last dealership in my area and finally the shop foreman there knew exactly what i was talking about, so it's booked in for June 12th, fingers cossed.

I'll personally confirm it can disrupt the A-C. Had software update Dec. '10 on '07 4matic. Update smooth as silk. Didn't need A-C 'till spring '11. Kaput. No warr., two indies said need new compressor and the whole shebang. $800 later and still not working, relented and went to dealer. Compressor not "talking" to the Command. $200 later and recoding, A-C worked; still is. Knowing the fluke would have saved me $1,000 and lotsa time.
Also, there's an updated nav disc out. Some board people been floating it around. Updates roads etc., not the Command.

As mentioned earlier, below is one of the many threads associated with getting your Telematic(Command) updated. I've had mine updated since I purchased my car (CPO) and I haven't had any issues whatsoever. Once again the key is to be very specfic about what you are trying to achieve and if possible print out some of the comments on the threads. It can be done without adverse issues associated with it.
